Three black vets run for Congress as Republicans, explain how US military service impacts decision

As America observes Memorial Day, three U.S. military veterans explained in an inspirational, patriotic manner on the Fox News Channel why they are running for Congress and particularly under the GOP banner.

In the video clip embedded above, West Point graduate and combat veteran Wesley Hunt told “Fox & Friends First” host Todd Piro that his party affiliation is consistent with his values and the values of the country in general.

“Because if you look at what is happening in our country today, it is actually the Republican Party that believes in the American spirit, fire, and still believes in the American dream. We want to defend our freedom not just for us and this generation but for generations to come. I mean, look, I am a direct descendant of a slave, and here I am, right now, running for United States Congress in a predominantly white district in Houston, Texas. You know what: that happens only in one place, and one place in the entire world, that’s this country,” Hunt asserted.

“The Republican Party believes in a meritocracy, the military believes in a meritocracy, and the three people on this panel believe we can continue to do this for the future. It doesn’t matter what you look like, it doesn’t matter where you’re from. If you are a red-blooded American, come on board,” Hunt, who is reportedly the front-runner in Texas’ 38th congressional district added.

Air Force vet and Somali immigrant Amal Torres, who is one of several Republican candidates heading into a July 19 primary, noted during the panel discussion that she is running in Maryland’s 3rd congressional district because of the mismanagement of the incumbent administration:

“The way things are in our country and after the botched withdrawal in Afghanistan, it only made sense to serve in Congress and run at a federal level and hold the Biden-Harris administration accountable…first thing that you have to know how to be able to do in the military is responsible decision-making, and that is what we need in Congress today now more than ever. Our country has been divided along arbitrary lines that don’t need to be there, so I, as a former service member who has supported and defended this Constitution will bring responsible decision-making back to Congress,” she asserted.

Running in Indiana’s 1st Congressional District, Air Force combat vet Jennifer-Ruth Green said, in part, that “First of all, being an American is amazing, I’ve had the opportunity to visit all seven continents, and I understand the gravity of our situation, and what’s at stake, because we have been an amazing social experiment. And we see the benefits that being in America has. And so serving and seeing other people in the other countries and the ways their lives are, my heart goes out, and also I just want to help and serve in that way…”

At the beginning of the conversation, Hunt described his call to further service in this profound way:

“We have the honor and the privilege every single day to wake up in this country and put our feet on free, sovereign American soil, and breathe free sovereign American air because we’ve had brave men and women die for it. And days like this hit really close to home for me. Fourteen of my West Point classmates are no longer with us; they were killed in the global war on terror, and four more since then have committed suicide…they didn’t die for black people or white people, or for Asian people, or for Hispanic people.

“They died for all Americans; it is incumbent upon us…to continue to find ways to serve because they’re no longer here to serve for themselves. That’s one of the reasons why I’m running for United States Congress. And I think the people on this panel get that.”

  1. There are many more vets (black, white, Hispanic, etc.) across this country who are running. They are equally as bright and promising. They all believe in this country and its purpose. They are Americans seeking to keep fellow Americans free by serving their country in as many ways as possible. May each succeed. God bless them all.

  2. None of these stories can possibly be true,. How could three Black People have been able to get an education, advance in the military and now think that they could actually run for any kind of Government Office when they live in such a Racist Country??? Haven’t they heard anything that the Democrats/Leftists/Liberals/Socialists have said over the past few years, at best they might get a job sweeping floors or working as a maid in the homes of one of these same Democrats/Leftists/Liberals/Socialists. What are these people thinking???
