Deep Staters Have Co-Opted Foreign Policy with Anti-American Agenda
Nick Virzi makes a strong case for the United States as a beacon for the world in “Why Guatemala Celebrates America as True North.” This appeared in the Impunity Observer, of which I am editor at large.
There is, however, a flipside to Virzi’s positive assessment. A conglomeration of groups working with Democrats have engaged in a concerted, criminal assault on US culture and institutions to transform the United States into a one-party state—AKA a dictatorship. The socialist Deep-Staters behind this have exported their agenda to Latin America, including to Guatemala.
Decentralization and rule of law have contributed to the US successes Virzi mentioned. Latin American underdevelopment results from centralization and abuse of power. Not without irony, those running the assault on the United States aspire to the Latin American model. Latin America, including Guatemala, should instead try to emulate the original US model that produced its successes.
Some of the consequences of cultural and institutional rot are a corrupt judicial system, an economic system favoring elites at the expense of the middle class, and rigged elections. Guatemala’s masses have resisted the US imposition of centralization while Guatemala’s organized private and government sectors have acquiesced.
The US and Guatemalan constitutions are similar regarding individual rights. The United States is moving away from this, while Guatemala has largely abandoned—under US duress—the aspirations contained in its Constitution.
Guatemalan submissiveness to US criminal imposition is due to its corruption, lack of understanding of US realities, and failure to have developed Guatemala. If Guatemala had instituted rule of law, decentralization, and limited government, it would have the moral authority and wherewithal to denounce and resist the imposition by anti-American US officials.
The criminal, elitist assault on the United States began more than a century ago. It advanced significantly during the administrations of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. That set the stage for Barack Obama to make his great leap forward.
US policy toward Guatemala and Latin America has supported successors to Fidel Castro’s subversives since Clinton. With few exceptions, such as Ronald Reagan, policies toward Latin America from Jimmy Carter’s government through the current Donald Trump administration have not changed. The US government has been infiltrated by Cuban agents to protect the evil Cuban dictatorship and its export of communism and criminality.
Before the implosion of the Soviet Union, Castro attempted to export violent revolutions throughout Latin America. After the implosion, Castro and his partner Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, through the São Paulo Forum, changed strategy to internal subversion.
The new strategy has been successful because Cuban agents within the US government have influenced every US administration from at least 1990 until now. Obama, through Joe Biden, took the active lead in imposing on our friends and strengthening our enemies.
The second Trump administration began to roll back the Deep State when he recalled former Ambassador Tobin Bradley and Deputy Chief of Mission Patrick Ventrell. Ventrell’s successor, John Barrett, stopped the criminal US support for Biden-regime-imposed ally President Bernardo Arévalo. Within three months, the Deep State had Barrett removed. Since then, Arévalo and his agents have openly committed crimes.
The Trump administration’s key Western Hemisphere policy is to militarily combat narcoterrorists. The Deep State has been protecting the cartels in Latin America. In Guatemala—the last stop before Mexico for narcotics—Trump could easily deal a significant blow to the cartels. However, Deep State agents have derailed the appointment of Juan Rodriguez, Trump’s non-State Department nominee for US ambassador to Guatemala.
Besides stopping Trump’s agenda, the Deep State has an even more important task regarding Guatemala. If Trump grabs control of Guatemala policy from the Deep State, it could lead to its exposure in other countries and parts of the US government.
The Deep State mostly consists of agents who are staff and not political appointees. They rarely reach high levels in the government. These same agents are also in NGOs, some of whom even describe themselves as conservative. These supposed Republicans then support the status quo and their comrades in the government.
Trump has courageously resisted and prevailed over Deep State and Biden-regime efforts against him. The Deep State will likely survive Trump’s tenure if he fails to grab control of US policy toward Guatemala now that it has challenged him there. No successor will be as strong as Trump, and another Biden-like regime will likely occur.
Guatemalans and all other Latin Americans must understand this US reality. Now is the moment to move toward rule of law, decentralization, limited government, and reciprocal trade. Latin Americans should not count on the US returning to what it was and must take their destinies into their own hands.
As Americans, we must support Trump’s identifying and dismantling of the Deep State to return to original founding principles.
