Bernie Sanders calls on Dem Party to have the ‘guts’ to court Trump voters weary of… rising costs?

While seemingly smearing the MAGA coalition, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders says that “imperfect” Democrats should have the intestinal fortitude to try to bring some Donald Trump supporters over to their column.

The subject came up during a TV interview on Sunday when NBC “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd, widely seen as a compliant corporate media mouthpiece, asked Sanders whether Trump voters who raised questions about the 2020 election outcome are “still worth courting.”

Sanders, a millionaire who apparently still considers himself a democratic socialist, rubber-stamps most liberal legislation as an “independent.”

In the video clip embedded above, the senator from Vermont — who made cross-party appeals as a 2016 and 2020 presidential candidate — initially responded with a disclaimer to placate the leftist contingent, before implying that some deplorables are redeemable.

“Look, I think there are some extreme right-wing voters who are racists, who are sexists, who are homophobes, xenophobes. No, and I don’t think you’re gonna ever get them,” the lawmaker told host Todd.

“But I also think there are millions of people in this country, working-class people, who look at Washington and they say: ‘You know what? I’m falling further and further behind. I can’t afford health care. I can’t afford to send my kids to college. I can’t afford the outrageous costs of prescription drugs. Who is listening to me?'” Sanders asserted.

Sanders, 81, continued: “And I think what we need is a Democratic Party that has the guts to stand up to them say, ‘Yeah, we’re going to take on the greed of the insurance companies and the drug companies and Wall Street.’ And I think if we do that, some of those people, I’m not saying all, will say, ‘you know what, I’m gonna stand with the Democratic Party because on these economic issues, they’re far preferable to right-wing Republicans.'”

Big Government Democrats have become aligned with woke Big Business, but Todd did not raise that contradiction during this portion of their dialogue.

Without evidence, Sanders — who has voted to send millions of U.S. taxpayer dollars to Ukraine — also accused the GOP of trying to cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, which seems to be a traditional election-year gambit by the left.

Sanders — who typically caves to the Democrat establishment at crunch time — also admitted in the discussion with Todd, that “I’m not here to tell you the Democrats are perfect. Believe me, they are not. But on virtually all of the issues, including climate change, the choice is pretty clear. Democrats are far, far more preferable…all over this country, and I hope very much that we can retain control of both the House and the Senate.”

“Despite being one of the most progressive senators in the Democratic caucus, Sanders made rural outreach a major focus during both of his presidential campaigns,” the Washington Examiner recalled.

As an aside, perhaps the senator’s accusations of racism and homophobia might, for example, be redirected to the Democrat-controlled Los Angeles City Council, rather than the GOP.
