Pelosi requiring masks, negative PCR test to attend SOTU, vows ‘removal’ of noncompliant

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is requiring her colleagues to mask up as a condition for attending the State of the Union address, even though the Washington, D.C., government will be dropping the mask mandate by then.

COVID testing for the presidential SOTU will also be a prerequisite.

The SOTU is scheduled for Tuesday, March 1, the same day that D.C. is scheduled to eliminate the face mask mandate in most indoor settings (although facial coverings will still be required in schools, as in many “follow-the-science” blue enclaves).

Pursuant to a memo from the House sergeant at arms, Pelosi — who has a history of violating mask edicts — is inviting all 535 Members of Congress to hear President Joe Biden speak; in a departure from tradition, however, no guests will be allowed.

“Per the memo, anyone attending the address in person will be required to present a negative PCR test, wear a K/N95 mask, and fill out a health attestation form. Social distancing will still be required. Boosters are “strongly recommended,'” ABC News reports.

The negative PCR test must be submitted 24 hours in advance of the SOTU.

Any lawmaker who doesn’t comply could be kicked out, as the event guidelines noted that “failure to follow guidelines or removal of the mask in the House Chamber will result in the attendee’s removal from the event and/or fines.”

For at least some GOP officials, these rules may make it very tempting to skip listening to Biden read off a teleprompter at length about his so-called accomplishments.

An interesting footnote from the New York Post: “Members of Congress are not required to get the COVID-19 vaccine, but have been encouraged to do so by leaders of both parties.”

In early January, Pelosi invited Biden to give his first SOTU (his April 2021 address with just 200 persons physically present apparently doesn’t count because it was delivered before he had a year in office) because of his “bold vision and patriotic leadership which have guided America out of crisis and into an era of great progress.”

Pelosi routinely requires masking in the House chamber except during floor debates; masks aren’t required in the U.S. Senate.

Conservative firebrands Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, among others, have racked up thousands of dollars in fines for noncompliance.

Last week, U.S. Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) called out the Democrat majority in Congress for allowing all members to attend the SOTU while still keeping the U.S. Capitol closed to the public.

In the meantime, U.S. Capitol Police say that are gearing up for the arrival of a U.S. version of the Freedom Convoy that could show up on or about March 1.

A D.C. police spokesperson also indicated that the department is aware of “potential First Amendment activities” and will be assessing the situation and planning with other agencies, Forbes reported.

Under far-left Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, police in Ottawa, that country’s capital city, have cracked down on the Freedom Convoy protests in a disturbing show of force.

As BPR has reported, an American “People’s Convoy” is purportedly gaining steam to peacefully protest COVID-related mandates that has inspired pro-freedom truckers in Canada. An estimated 1,000 or more U.S. truck drivers are set to participate.
