Ghoulish pro-vaccine Twitter users seemed to celebrate the tragic death of an anti-mandate California Republican.
Kelly Ernby, 46, an Orange County prosecutor, reportedly died of COVID-19 complications, although the official cause of death has yet to be released. According to the Orange County Register, Ernby’s husband indicated on social media that she was not vaccinated.
“I never heard Kelly say, ‘Don’t get a vaccine,'” Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner told NBC Los Angeles. “Everything I heard was, ‘Make an informed decision. It is your decision to make.'”
“[I]t’s frustrating to see comments on social media using his friend’s death to score political points, whether claiming Ernby died after receiving a vaccine or suggesting she deserved that outcome because she wouldn’t get one,” the Register further reported about Wagner’s thoughts.
Ernby, who was a member of the GOP Central Committee, was gearing up to make another run for state assembly after narrowly losing a primary in 2020.
This sad news about Ernby comes as increasing numbers of tripled-jabbed individuals around the country, including those in high-profile positions, are nonetheless testing positive for the virus, or at least perhaps the Omicron variant.
Just a month and a half after Gavin Newsom said “gee what could go wrong” in response to Florida fighting mask and vaccine mandates, California, with mask and vaccine mandates reported over 237,000 new cases today and has set a new pandemic high

In California where nearly 80 percent of the population is vaccinated and where various mask and vaccine mandates are in effect, COVID cases are reportedly surging, particularly in southern California counties including Orange.
The overall state positivity rate is 20.4 percent as of this writing, and with a daily death rate of 41, according to the state’s tracking data.
Heartfelt tributes for Ernby have poured in from her colleagues as well as many in the Republican Party who knew and/or worked with her.
My heart is broken and I'm in tears. I lost a dear friend to Covid complications. I love you @KellyErnby ! You’ve been nothing but an inspiration to many of us here in Orange County. 🥺🙏🥺 pic.twitter.com/5WEC11uk8y

In a long Twitter thread, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer, for example, wrote that “The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is heartbroken by the sudden and unexpected passing of Deputy District Attorney Kelly Ernby. Kelly was an incredibly vibrant and passionate attorney who cared deeply about the work that we do as prosecutors – and deeply about the community we all fight so hard to protect. Her enthusiasm was contagious and she invested every ounce of her enthusiasm into her work safeguarding Orange County as part of our Environmental Protection team…”
Spitzer told local media that “the comments on social media, people have been texting me, just utterly disgusted by the some of the comments about her and her life decisions, almost as if she deserved her fate because she took a particular position. People make decisions, and obviously with their health and they have to suffer those consequences, but that should not be her legacy at all.”

Here is a sample of the type of bad-faith commentary that Ernby’s passing prompted on Twitter, none of which presumably violates the platform’s rules.
Another one bites the dust. One less voting Republican. And, by God, it was her own free right. Next!

How is that anti vax stance working out for you?
Looks like you’re up for disassembly now.
The Republican problem is taking care of itself.

Congratulations Kelly, I hear you’ve won the prestigious Herman Cain Award! Will your next of kin be available to pick it up on your behalf?
