A woman who tried to calm things down between two men who were fighting at a college football game got knocked to the ground even as other peacemakers also attempted to break up the altercation.
The disturbing, violent incident occurred in the concourse of Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Thursday, December 30, between the Pittsburgh Panthers and the Michigan State Spartans, and the footage of the melee has gone viral on social media, resulting in millions of views.
In the three-round encounter, and the video does not show what led up to the Peach Bowl brawl, a man purportedly wearing Pitt gear strikes another man with an open fist.
That man initially walked away but then returned (with what looks like blowing a kiss after first practicing his basketball jump shot), at which point the first man threw another punch, knocking both his adversary and the woman to the concrete.
“Look what you did,” a bystander shouts at the man wearing the blue pullover, pointing to the woman lying on the floor, who was being attended to by several others. Another man advises “look what you did; it’s not worth it.”
In round three, the two fighters wound up grappling on the floor before several good Samaritans, intervened and separated them. Several men managed to stop round four from occurring after that.
Cops showed up at the end of the approximately two-minute footage, and it has not been reported if any arrests were made. The woman does appear to get back on her feet, providentially.
Props to all those who helped out to de-escalate the situation and likely prevented serious injuries to those involved.

On the field, the Spartans defeated the Panthers by a score of 31-21.

It might also be argued, in a wholly and completely different context, these episodes have become as common as the scenarios where authoritarian, lockdown-loving Democrats have been spotted in public without face masks or social distancing, but that’s an entirely other matter.
Again, the details surrounding the Peach Bowl punch-out have yet to be disclosed.
However, as a general principle, the NFL, the NCAA, MLB, other sports governing bodies, and/or stadium operators may have to consider banning adult beverages, despite the substantial revenue involved, if similar incidents continue.
That aspect of the fan experience may be unrelated to this particular incident, however.
In what might also be unrelated this time around is the odd tendency for grown men or women to wear team jerseys to games. In so doing, they apparently at times come under the misguided, illusionary impression that they play for their favorite team rather than just being part of the audience and, as such, might also suggest the exclusion of this kind of swag.
“These ugly incidents continue to negatively impact sporting events, and may need to be seriously addressed by venues in the coming months,” Sports Illustrated noted about the Peach Bowl confrontation.
