In a preview of what might be the immigration “enforcement” priorities of a Joe Biden administration particularly if Democrats regain control of the U.S. Senate, open-borders Democrat Jon Ossoff claims that federal agents should make sure that illegal immigrants get paid the minimum wage.
“‘Dreamers, DACA recipients, are every bit as American as any of us, and I will have your back in the U.S. Senate, and I will protect Dreamers in the U.S. Senate,” Ossoff also told a woman at a campaign rally who asked what he would do for Dreamers such as herself in footage that his campaign shared on Twitter.
Jon Ossoff is running against incumbent Republican Sen. David Perdue in one of two critical runoffs in Georgia that will be decided on January 5 and that could result in the Democrats, rather than Mitch McConnell and the Republicans, effectively controlling the chamber if the GOP fails to get its act together.
DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, was implemented by President Obama without the approval of Congress and which puts on hold any deportations for those so-called Dreamers who qualify.
At the rally, Ossoff went on to address the minimum-wage issue for farmworkers who have come to the U.S. illegally.
“In Georgia’s agricultural sector, the Campesinos who work in the fields, enduring some of the most brutal conditions of labor anywhere in this country to keep America fed, paid less than the minimum wage, often subject to abuse by employers. When federal agents arrive at one of these farms, it should be to make sure people are being paid the minimum wage, working in humane conditions.”

“We should have gratitude for those who keep us fed, who toil in the fields and show humanity and compassion for those who are a part of our society but living in the shadows. So I will be there for you and for all Dreamers,” Ossoff concluded.
No reasonable person would object to humane working conditions. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under President Trump has prioritized the apprehension and deportation of violent felons, however, rather than those undocumented individuals who have crossed the border illegally and stayed here without authorization for other reasons.
In his remarks, Ossoff engaged in some standard liberal pandering when he talked about so-called comprehensive immigration reform and a “path to legal status” for those who have violated federal law, instead of those who want to come to America under the rules of the country’s very generous and compassionate legal immigration procedures. Power-driven Democrats increasingly seem to elevate the interests of illegal aliens over U.S. citizens and legal immigrants.
