Mamdani fiscal crisis claim doesn’t deter proposed 18.2% pay raise for himself, city council

The Big Apple’s budget woes may have proved free buses a bust, but they weren’t enough to deter the mayor’s personally appointed commission from proposing a massive boon for Hizzoner.

Legislative malfeasance has continued to prime apathy amongst the makers, ushering in a 2026 primary season rife with socialist victories for the all too giddy takers. Before the new crop of commies seek wins in the fall, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) was previewing how empty promises will likely play out as a recommended 18.2% raise was introduced for his personal enrichment.

In the months since taking over City Hall, Mamdani has backtracked from some of his biggest budget-busting campaign promises — like free public transportation — while turning to Albany for a bailout at the same time he deferred pension payments for city workers just to make ends meet.

Now, the Uganda-born silver spoon socialist son of a professor and a filmmaker could see his salary jump by almost $50,000 as his policies continue driving away business from the five boroughs.

Reacting to the proposed raise from the Quadrennial Advisory Commission that he appointed in its June 2026 report, Fox Business’ Elizabeth MacDonald wrote on X, “Pretty rich that socialist Zohran Mamdani claimed a fiscal crisis just two weeks ago but just got an 18.2% pay raise for himself and the mostly far left city council.”

She went on to detail, “Mamdani is now making more than the prime ministers of the UK, Canada, Japan and Australia, the Chancellor of Germany with exchange rates, also France’s President, the Speaker of the House, House lawmakers, the New York State governor, and most state governors.”

Stating that the last salary increase was passed in 2016, with much of the raise occurring in 2021, the report lamented 31% inflation over the decade since, framing the proposal as insufficient when compared to cost of living increases.

The across-the-board increase would see City Council members earning $27,000 more per year and district attorneys earning nearly $30,000 more annually, along with comparable raises for borough presidents and other elected officials.

Speaking with City & State NY, City Council Speaker Julie Menin (D) spokesperson Henry Robins said a vote on the recommendations is expected later in the summer. “The speaker has briefed council members on the commission’s recommendations and is currently determining next steps.”

Meanwhile, Mamdani and Menin both have insisted they would not be taking salary increases, with Hizzoner’s spokesperson Dora Pekec stating in January, “The mayor has committed to not taking a pay raise during his first term,” less than two months before selecting the members of the advisory commission who proposed the 18.2% bump.

Amid increasing awareness about the extremist plans proposed by Democratic socialists, of which Mamdani has become the poster boy while propagandizing alleged successes, reactions on social media were hardly surprised at the ways the mayor was using his office.
