Despite humiliating herself publicly over and over again by releasing and promoting her so-called “Green New Deal,” socialist congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appears to believe that Republicans are the ones who’ve been making fools of themselves.
How so? Because they’ve spent so much time criticizing her plan. To be clear, part of the reason Republicans have focused their gaze on her is because of how far the demonstrably left-wing media have gone to establish her as “America’s lightning rod,” as Time magazine put it.
“Well, I mean, it is next level. I didn’t expect them to make total fools of themselves,” she said unironically during a sycophantic MSNBC-hosted town hall event Friday about the GOP’s criticism of her. “Frankly, I expected a little more nuance and a little more concerned trolling.”
The audience of pure AOC supporters clapped in glee. MSNBC host Chris Hayes likewise made no attempts to push back on her disingenuous rhetoric and question the merits of her so-called deal.
As a reminder, the “Green New Deal” calls for essentially redesigning America from top to bottom and creating a utopia where everybody is guaranteed a job (assuming they want one), in addition to free education, free healthcare, free housing, etc. The deal also calls for eliminating combustion-engine vehicles (i.e., cars), airplanes, fossil fuel energy, nuclear energy, meat and even farting cows.
Or at least the original version of the GND that Ocasio-Cortez released earlier last month called for that. In response to the backlash that promptly ensued, she retracted the original version and claimed it’d been released by accident. She repeated this argument on Friday.
“What I will say is that I definitely have a staffer that had a very bad day at work and we did release a working draft early,” she said. “So I get that’s what they’re seizing on. But really what we need to do is have a serious conversation and even in those draft versions, what they were talking about and is really about the fact that we need to innovate on our technology.”
And there’s the rub. Though she retracted the original version, she admitted Friday that it was a legitimate “draft,” meaning she’d been serious about her radical proposals. She also doubled down on the claim that Americans need to have a “serious conversation” about her ideas.
But why are her ideas so radical? They’re so radical because she genuinely believes that Earth and its inhabitants are slated for impending doom in 12 years because of climate change.
“Here is the thing is I get that in our political context in the history of health care, in the history of labor rights, in the history of women’s rights, these are long struggles and generational struggles and that is something important for young activists, as well,” she said.
“We’re not the first. We will not be on the last. We stand on the shoulders of giants, but climate change is different because we have an expiration date, and the IPCC report says we’ve got 12 years to turn it around. 12 years. So my concern is that we are going to be the frog in the pot of boiling water, and we are going to debate and debate and debate and debate, and when we actually finally pass something, it’s a wimpy carbon tax and our kids are doomed.”
A number of prominent scientists have refuted this claim, but never mind the facts.

All Ocasio-Cortez knows is that climate change doom is real (it’s not) and that American’s free market economy has done nothing to stymie it (it has). And that’s why radicalism is called for.
“The one thing we can’t rebuke and cannot deny is that climate change is a problem of market failure in our economics. And moreover, ExxonMobil knew that climate change was real and man-made starting as far back as 1970. The entire United States government knew that climate change was real and human cause in 1989, the year I was born.”
“So the initial response was threat market handle it. They will do it. 40 years and free-market solutions have not changed our position.”
She was partially correct, in that conspiracy theorists just like her had indeed been warning of the dangers of climate change as early as the 1970s. It was in fact in 1989 that the Associated Press reported, “A senior U.N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.”
Thirty years have passed, and not a single nation had been “wiped off the face of the Earth.”

See this, @AOC? Entire nations can be wiped off the face of the Earth!

The key criticism that’s been lodged at the young congresswoman’s deal is the fact that it has very little to do with the environment and everything to do with Marxist-styled socialism.
As noted earlier, the deal calls for providing everybody with a job. AOC reiterated this Friday.
“This is not just about what industries we are going to grow. Again, it’s about how we’re going to grow them. One of the reasons that we are really moving in the direction that we are moving in with good, dignified, unionized jobs,” she said.

Nothing the congresswoman said Friday helped wash the stink off her widely panned “Green New Deal.” If anything, she seemed to just remind the world of how stunningly inexperienced and unequipped for her job in Congress that she happens to be.
She also demonstrated her ignorance regarding the Tea Party movement. She claimed for instance that the grassroots Tea Party movement had been funded by the Koch brothers whereas her rise to power had been funded and promoted by everyday Americans.
That’s a lie, of course.
She also attacked her fellow Democrats for getting in her radical way.
And she copped a sanctimonious attitude when a heckler interrupted her.
