At the intersection of pandering, preaching and progressivism, more gems mined from the James Talarico vault included an assertive comparison of black and white churches.

Throughout his campaign aiming to become the next Senator for the state of Texas, the Democratic state representative has leaned heavily on his background as a Christian and graduate of the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
However, past remarks have continued to unravel the sheep’s clothing Talarico has garbed himself in as he both dubbed Christianity the “most violent” religion and accused white churches of a focus that doesn’t “resemble the Jesus we meet in the Gospels …”
Highlighted by Breitbart News, a clip from a September 2024 appearance on the “Holy Conversation: Faith and Politics” podcast found him comparing white and black churches, first saying, “Too many white churches are focused on the afterlife and not really much on this life.”

“In my opinion, a lot of white churches don’t resemble the Jesus we meet in the Gospels of being out in the world, of freeing the oppressed and healing the sick and feeding the hungry,” the Senate hopeful continued before adding, “And in the black churches that I’ve been in, they, I think because of their position in this country, historically and currently, have a much deeper and more accurate understanding of what it means to follow Jesus in the 21st century. So I’m glad that we are learning from black churches. I know my church has up in North Austin, and it sounds like this church is.”
The most recent commentary on the faith followed a previous report reaching back to March 2021 remarks when the politician described himself as a “Christian who hates Christianity” while remaining incapable of containing his “inner fanboy” about an interview with a self-described nonbinary “transgender” Latinx podcaster.

What’s more, as renewed concerns about Islamism in the United States have found Texas lawmakers advancing efforts to prevent threats to the Constitution and Western values via the Sharia Free America Caucus led by Reps. Keith Self (R) and Chip Roy (R) in Washington, D.C. and the Sharia Free Texas Caucus led by state Rep. Brent Money (R) in Austin, an interview with The New Yorker in February found Talarico charging Christianity to be the “most violent” when compared to Islam and Judaism.
He made the case that Christianity “has done more damage to both than they’ve done to each other,” having also previously contended that “God is nonbinary,” genital mutilation of children is “not child abuse” and justification for abortion can be found in the Bible as the Annunciation was actually God asking for the Virgin Mary’s consent.
Among those reacting to the Democrat’s latest takes on Christianity, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) said, “James Talarico says Christianity is ‘the most violent religion’ and has done ‘more damage’ than Islam. Let that sink in. That’s not just historically illiterate. It’s a direct insult to millions of Texans whose faith built our churches, charities, schools, and communities.”
