Just days after leading Weinstein charge, Rose McGowan is arrested for a disturbing crime

The woman who knocked over the first domino in the Hollywood sexual abuse scandal has been arrested.

Actress Rose McGowan, who accused director Harvey Weinstein of raping her, surrendered to Virginia authorities on Tuesday on a warrant for possession of cocaine and was released on a $5,000 bond, TMZ reported.

“The police officers and magistrate were very polite and kind,” she told the New Yorker‘s Ronan Farrow, the reporter who broke the Hollywood sex scandal story.

A warrant was issued for McGowan’s arrest last month, months after an airport employee found a wallet that was carried by McGowan that allegedly had small bags of cocaine in it.

McGowan has insinuated that the warrant was the work of those who want to silence her campaign against, not only Weinstein, but a culture of sex abuse in Hollywood.

“Are they trying to silence me? There is a warrant out for my arrest in Virginia. What a load of HORSESHIT,” she wrote on Twitter.

After she was released McGowan told Farrow that she brought a slim card wallet with her on her trip to Washington on January 20 and left it unattended in her luggage when she went to the restroom during the flight.

“I had it in the side pocket of my backpack and I left it on my seat as I went to the bathroom,” she said.

McGowan said that she tweeted United to help her find the wallet after she discovered it was lost.

An employee found the wallet which, the employee and supervisor said contained two small bags of a powdery substance that later tested positive for cocaine by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department.

She was later contacted by a detective, Jerrod Hughes, who told her he found the wallet, but did not tell her what was found in it.

McGowan said that she believed it was a fake officer. She said that she feared that she was being followed since she went public with allegations that she was raped by a “studio head.”

“I was going to (respond to the warrant) ASAP but then things started to get really weird. I knew I was being followed and that I wasn’t safe,” she told Farrow.

The actress and her attorney, Jim Hundley, contend that the drugs might have been planted in the wallet because of the amount of time McGowan did not have it.

“Depending on when and where the wallet was lost, individuals other than Ms. McGowan had access to the wallet for somewhere between approximately 5 hours 40 minutes and more than 11 hours,” her attorney wrote in a memorandum, requesting the charges be dismissed, to the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney Jim Plowman, according to the New Yorker.

“I had it in the side pocket of my backpack, and I left it on my seat as I went to the bathroom,” she said.

McGowan told Farrow that she had used drugs in the past, stating that “I own stock in a marijuana company, so that’s my jam.”

But, she said, that weekend, on her way to a women’s march, cocaine was not on her mind.

“Imagining I’m going into sisterly solidarity, I can think of nothing more opposed to that, energetically, that I would want in my body at that moment,” she said.

“I will clearly plead not guilty,” she said.

If convicted, McGowan faces up to a year in prison.

And, she had a cryptic warning for Hollywood sexual abusers.

“More will fall,” she said.
