A young Washington D.C. waitress learned that you can not judge a book by its cover this week when a group of Trump supporters gave her a fantastic surprise.
The waitress, Rosalynd Harris, was waiting tables at Busboys and Poets on Monday when three Trump supporters from the South sat at one of her tables.
“I could tell they were from the south because they had their cowboy hats on and I was like ‘Oh, you’re not from the city,'” she told WUSA.
The waitress and the gentlemen were far apart politically, as Harris had participated in the Women’s March the day before, but that didn’t stop them from being nice to each other.
And what the men did before they left had Harris rethink any preconceived notions she had about Trump supporters.
The three men left Harris a $450 tip on their $72 bill along with a note that read “We may come from different cultures and may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people.
“Not race. Not gender. Just American. God Bless!” they wrote.
Harris told the Washington Post that this “reshaped her perspective.”
“You automatically assume if someone supports Trump that they have ideas about you” she said.
“But [the customer is] more embracing than even some of my more liberal friends, and there was a real authenticity in our exchange.
“This definitely reshaped my perspective. Republican, Democrat, liberal are all subcategories to what we are experiencing. It instills a lot of hope.”
It’s a lesson many can learn from.
