Last-minute moves by lame duck presidents on the way out the door are not uncommon, but according to pollster Frank Luntz, the moves Barack Obama has been making put him in a class by himself.
Obama’s last-minute actions appear to be no less than a petty attempt aimed solely at hampering incoming President Donald J. Trump.
Indeed, Fox News analyst Luntz is calling Obama’s last weeks of frenzied actions one big “Obama FU tour.” Obama has been rushing to make pronouncements against Russia, has worked to undermine Israel, has rushed to empty the Guantanamo Bay detention center of dangerous terrorists, indulged massive pardons of drug dealers, and passed reams of needless regulations. These are actions unprecedented by past presidents as they were about to walk off the stage, Luntz said.
Luntz continued saying that with his last-minute actions Obama is not acting very presidential.
What he has said about Hillary Clinton and her campaign and drawing that contrast. What he has done to Israel and Benjamin Netanyahu. There are people that he has had political difficulties with—and by the way, Republican members of the house and senate—the people who he’s disagreed with over the last eight years. He’s gone to great pains to draw a contrast between the things that he says and the things that they have done that makes me think he’s trying to settle scores before he leaves. And that’s not presidential.
President-Elect Trump also knows that Obama is doing his best to create problems and to “set up roadblocks” ahead of the January 20 inauguration.

On Twitter, Trump slammed Obama’s actions saying, “Doing my best to disregard the many inflammatory President O statements and roadblocks,” Mr. Trump said. “Thought it was going to be a smooth transition — NOT!”

Luntz noted that several presidents were not too happy to turn the reins over to their successor and some indulged in some sneaky and unwelcome moves as the last days counted down, but what Obama is doing is really unprecedented.
