It’s probably more words than Russian president Vladimir Putin and President Obama have spoken to each other in years.
Actor Steven Seagal received his Russian passport from Putin last week after he was granted Russian citizenship.
The action star, whose heritage is Russian, signed the passport in a ceremony with Putin on Friday, Reuters reported.
“I want to congratulate you and express the hope that this is another, albeit small, gesture and it might be a sign of the gradual normalization of relations between our countries,” Putin said.
The Russian president asked Seagal how he was doing, to which the star responded, “everything is good. We will talk later. For now just honored to be here.”
The 64-year-old actor has been a regular visitor to Russia and his movies are popular in the country, according to Reuters.
Some social media users joked that President-elect Donald Trump ought to forget Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani and hire Seagal as secretary of state or be given an ambassadorship.
