When opening your borders to the Third World, a country should expect to encounter Third World problems.
Latin American crime rings are burglarizing homes across America and the “highly functional and well-trained” crooks are using high-tech devices to pull off the heists, according to WXYZ.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said “transnational organized crime groups” from Colombia and Chile are behind a series of burglaries of luxury homes, using a jammer to get past wireless security systems that depend on WiFi to operate and stealing everything from jewelry to expensive clothing and handbags to gaming systems and cash, the ABC affiliate reported.
“More and more the conclusion is pretty obvious – these are transnational gangs that are involved in this that come from South America looking to do burglaries and violate our communities, not just in Oakland County, but across America,” Bouchard said back in September.
The sheriff announced this week the creation of a new task force, called the SEM CAB, or Southeast Michigan Collaborate Arrest Prosecute. The task force included local law enforcement agencies, U.S. Border Patrol, and the Secret Service.
Bouchard said at a news conference that 30 to 40 homes in the county that includes Pontiac and Auburn Hills are believed to have been hit since September. Five robberies occurred this past weekend alone.
He said the crews are mostly Chilean and they dressed in black, with backpacks, and gloves. They work in groups of four to six and are non-confrontational as they look to get in and out of homes quickly. According to the sheriff, the gangs look for high-end homes that can be approached from the back without being seen and even enter through second-story windows.
Four people are in custody in the Oakland County Jail in connection with this ring and WXYZ reported that “others are in custody in other parts of the country.”
