Healthy dad, 40, dies on dream family trip to Disney World after ingesting fentanyl

A British tourist holidaying at Florida’s Disney World allegedly died from complications related to fentanyl poisoning, according to an autopsy conducted in his home country.

Authorities have apparently not announced, or perhaps even determined, however, the manner in which the deadly synthetic opioid got into the otherwise healthy man’s system.

On the tragic day in question, May 23, Philip Weybourne and his family reportedly decided to forego many of the famous Disney attractions in the Orlando area in favor of a more relaxing day, his wife Dorlyn reportedly told authorities in a statement at an inquest.

After waking up late, the couple and their son had lunch together, took a ride on an amphibious vehicle, and then returned to their hotel in the early evening.

“Mrs. Weybourne explained that her husband…wanted to continue drinking and went to the Yacht Club hotel at Epcot Resorts Boulevard alone,” the Daily Mail reported on Monday. Philip reportedly collapsed at the bar.

Disney staff reportedly showed up at their hotel room door two hours later to inform Dorlyn Weybourne that her husband was rushed by ambulance to a nearby, off-site hospital.

Upon arriving at the healthcare facility, she was subsequently informed by doctors that her husband was pronounced dead at about 8 p.m. local time.

“The doctors told Mrs. Weybourne that her husband had died from a cardiac arrest. After the autopsy it was revealed that he had fatal levels of fentanyl in his system,” the news outlet added.

According to Assistant Coroner Catherine Wood who offered condolences to the family, “‘I don’t know the circumstances that led up to his death as Mr. Weybourne died in another country. He had no underlying health issues and I am content, after the findings of the autopsy, that his death was caused by fatal levels of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid used as a pain medication.”

Philip Weybourne, 40, who lived with his family in Kent in southeast England, was employed as the Middle East director of Excis Compliance Limited, a global IT support company.

According to grim data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fentanyl poisoning has become the primary cause of death for Americans in the 18-45 age group.

In August, Fox News reported that “fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine….the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that more than 108,000 people in the U.S. died of drug overdoses between February 2021 and February 2022. Of those, more than 70% involved fentanyl and other synthetic opioids.”

The drug is reportedly manufactured in China and trafficked in Mexico, and pills are pouring into the U.S. across a border that the Biden administration claims is secure.

A mere two milligrams of fentanyl is said to be a potentially lethal dose.
