Nancy Mace’s race against pediatrician opponent gets UGLY over child abuse allegations, lawsuit threatened

Nancy Mace’s pediatrician opponent is accusing the GOP lawmaker of bigotry in connection with some campaign advertising.

U.S. Rep. Mace, who is seeking a second House term in South Carolina’s first congressional district, is being challenged by Democrat Annie Andrews.

In one message, Mace had accused Dr. Andrews of “child abuse” in the guise of so-called gender-affirming care or therapy. As implied her social media content, Mace claims she has the receipts.

As alluded to above, however, in a lengthy statement, Dr. Andrews slammed Mace for a “bigoted attack ad.”

Andrews insisted, in part, that “I do not support gender affirming surgery for anyone under 18 — nor does my hospital perform those procedures. What I support is evidenced-based medical care, with parental consent, for teens struggling with gender identity issues.”

The physician added that she is taking an unpaid leave of absence from the Medical University of South Carolina’s Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, increasing personal security, and exploring legal options that she could take against Mace for defamation.

Andrews, who said she is not backing down over “these abhorrent attacks,” called for the commercials to be stopped. She also accused Mace of elevating her political career above all else, including dignity and human decency.

I knew politics would be ugly but I never thought I’d see the day when my own congresswoman would accuse me – a pediatrician for over a decade – of ‘child abuse,’ ” Andrews declared.

The Hill has reached out to Mace’s office for comment,” the publication reported on Wednesday.

Whether this is an expression of legitimate outrage or a election campaign tactic, or both, in a district that trends red, presumably is up to South Carolina voters to decide.

Mace has claimed that Andrews “will do or so anything to impress Washington, D.C., liberals.”

For the left in general,  gender-affirming care is usually a euphemism for puberty blockers and extreme surgical interventions.

According to The State earlier this year, “In the immediate aftermath of the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, Mace became one of Trump’s most vocal and prolific critics within the Republican Party.”

Mace, who gets a lot of airtime in the media, fended off a challenge from Trump-endorsed Katie Arrington in the June 14 primary for the Charleston-area seat.

At the time of his endorsement of the challenger, ex-President Trump called Mace, who is likely to win reelection, “an absolutely terrible candidate.”

Rep. Mace, who has  rhetorically sparred with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), has vowed that she will win reelection without the Trump imprimatur.

She has claimed that claimed that she was one of candidate Trump’s earliest supporters and campaigned for him in multiple states during the 2016 election cycle as well as supporting him in 2020.

In a recent appearance on NBC “Meet the Press,” Mace — who is sometimes RINO and sometimes non-RINO — stunned liberal host Chuck Todd when  she predicted that Republicans, if they win control of the House, could seek to impeach President Biden.

Describing herself as “staunchly pro-life,” Mace has asserted that lawmakers must develop a centrist perspective as it relates to the abortion issue in the aftermath of the Supreme Court Dobbs ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade.
