Democratic lawmakers are having a fit over recent migrant transfers that saw liberal cities scrambling to address lax border security.
Politicians and media figures on MSNBC claim Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott’s transportation of migrants from Florida and Texas to “sanctuary cities” constitutes human trafficking and have asked the Justice Department to launch a criminal probe, according to a Fox News compilation of Democrat lawmakers and liberal media pundits.
The Nation reporter Elie Mystal said the two Republican governors, who have seen more than 2 million migrants cross the border illegally this year, violated federal kidnapping statutes and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland is duty bound to investigate.
“We need Merrick Garland once again to understand that and bring the full weight and power of the federal government down on these people,” Mystal said in the montage of clips.
California Governor Gavin Newsom and Florida gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist, both Democrats, also called on Garland to launch a probe.
“Several of the individuals who were transported to Martha’s Vineyard have alleged that a recruiter induced them to accept the offer of travel based on false representations that they would be transported to Boston and would receive expedited access to work authorization,” Newsom wrote in a letter to Garland. “I urge US DOJ to investigate whether the alleged fraudulent inducement would support charges of kidnapping under relevant state laws.”
In the Fox News compilation of clips, MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough called DeSantis’ move “political human trafficking” during a conversation with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and MSNBC host Joy Reid asked Miami Herald reporter David Ovalle if his reporting had uncovered evidence of a crime.
“There is a lot of chatter now that what these governors, including Ron DeSantis, have done is to have trafficked these families,” Reid said.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, who previously called DeSantis and Abbott’s actions an “illegal stunt,” compared the two Republican governors to cartel bosses during Friday’s press briefing.
“These are the kind of tactics we see from smugglers in places like Mexico and Guatemala,” Jean-Pierre said. “And for what? A photo op?”
But DeSantis and Abbott are steadfast in their efforts to bring awareness to the harsh realities of illegal immigration.
Texas Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, a Democrat, who recently opened an investigation into the legality of DeSantis flying two flights of illegal immigrants from Texas to the wealthy elitist playground of Martha’s Vineyard, was eviscerated by the Florida governor.

“Florida gave them an opportunity to seek greener pastures in a sanctuary jurisdiction that offered greater resources for them, as we expected,” DeSantis said in a statement. “Unless the MA national guard has abandoned these individuals, they have been provided accommodations, sustenance, clothing, and more options to succeed following their unfair enticement into the United States, unlike the 53 immigrants who died in a truck found abandoned in Bexar County this June.”
DeSantis referred to the tragic deaths of 53 migrants found in a locked commercial truck in San Antonio earlier this year.
An opportunity for the left to welcome the migrants into their community as they so often demand others do was lobbed as the liberal enclaves kicked the newcomers to the curb, declared a “humanitarian crisis,” and cried foul while berating the right as uncaring.
“I was a little bit perplexed when I heard that the president is scrambling to get his Cabinet together to try to address the fact that you have governors who are helping to relocate illegal aliens to sanctuary cities,” DeSantis said to cheer and applause before unleashing a volley of Biden’s resounding failures on the border crisis.

“Now, he didn’t scramble to get his Cabinet together when we had millions of people illegally pouring across the southern border. He didn’t scramble to get his Cabinet together when you had 53 migrants die in some trailer in Texas because they were neglected by the federal government,” he added. “You didn’t see him scramble to get his Cabinet together when we had Americans that were victimized by criminal aliens that he let across the border.”
