Relationship likely to get mighty awkward after Lindsey Graham’s Trump comments alleged in new book

Sen. Lindsey Graham may have some explaining to do upon his next golf outing with former President Donald Trump, if there is one.

At the very least, some awkward moments may occur when the duo get together.

The South Carolina GOP senator supposedly had some profane and positive things to say about POTUS 45 in a new book called “The Divider: Trump in the White House, 2017-2021.”

It is authored by Peter Baker, the chief White House correspondent for the New York Times, and New Yorker magazine columnist Susan Glasser, both of whom presumably check all the liberal boxes; the title of the book may convey all you need to know about where they are coming from.

According to Axios, which evidently obtained a review copy, Graham “called his friend Donald Trump “‘a lying mother—-er’  but ‘a lot of fun to hang out with.’ Graham said it with ‘a what-can-you-do shrug,’ the authors report — the mindset of so many Trump allies and enablers.”

It’s likely no one would disagree that Trump has an outsized, high-energy personality, and is someone who is not a detail guy.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, journalist Selena Zito perceptively wrote that “The press takes [Trump] literally, but not seriously; his supporters take him seriously, but not literally.”

Stand by for a response from him via Truth Social, however, in response to what Graham allegedly had to say, which may have been a lame attempt by the senator to sound cool.

Axios explained that the 700-page tome, which has an official September 20 release date, contains material from 300 interviews (presumably some of which might include hearsay, or are self-serving or petty, as things often go in politics.)

Axios also claims that Trump “came close to taking several rash military actions,” which doesn’t ring true, but maybe the authors can back that up.

Trump, who seems to be enamored with The New York Times to some degree despite its woke editorial approach, sat down for two interviews with the authors, which may have been a mistake.

Maybe “The Divider” will be the exception. Most political books, however, turn out to be boring and/or often unsubstantiated, if they are even read, and quickly wind up heavily discounted to move them off the shelves or onto digital devices.

This tends to be why the salacious parts are often leaked in advance to try to generate buzz.

This book will probably consume the news cycle for a period of time, particularly of the anti-Trump variety, desperate for clicks or to fill air time with fear-mongering about threats to democracy.

The book also claims that Trump feuded with top military generals (is that necessarily a bad thing?), that Melania Trump criticized his handling of COVID on one occasion, and that he was initially reluctant to order U.S. flags at half mast when U.S. Sen. John McCain passed away.

Maybe the authors have the goods. It could also be said that there is no end to attempts to monetize Trump derangement syndrome, especially in an election season.

One has to consider the source to some extent. The New York Times, for example, won a Pulitzer Prize for its “reporting” on the Russia collusion hoax.

Graham, 67, who is sometimes RINO, sometimes MAGA, is having a rough week.

He stands accused of possibly tanking the midterms for the GOP by proposing a federal ban on abortion after 15 weeks, subject to certain exceptions, even though the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the Dobbs case that the matter was a state issue.

Graham, who has previously expressed support for Trump as a 2024 presidential candidate, described him as “a handful” in the past.

The senator is up for reelection in 2026.
