Dem Sen Hirono encourages ‘literal call to arms in our country… it doesn’t go far enough to call them out’

Democrats often condemn what they consider inflammatory or insurrection-y rhetoric, but U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) appeared to perhaps engage in that very thing on Wednesday.

Career politician Hirono, 74, whom Fox News host Tucker Carlson has dubbed America’s dumbest senator, took to the floor of the upper chamber of Congress to condemn U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham’s proposal for a federal ban on abortions (subject to exceptions) after 15 weeks.

“Talk about government overreach. When I hear my colleagues talking about how, you know, it should be states’ rights or government should not be telling us what to do, the word ‘hypocrites,’ it doesn’t even go far enough to call them out on what they’re doing,” she said.

“This is an outright attack on women in this country. That is how I see it. That is how more and more women, and those who support our right to make decisions about our own bodies, that is how we see it. And why? Because that’s what’s happening. Madam President, I yield the floor. But clearly, this is a — literally call to arms in our country,” Hirono concluded.

Hirono is up for reelection in 2024 in the deep blue state.

Pro-life advocates took to Twitter to criticize Hirono’s commentary, especially the word literally, given the wave of attacks, including firebombing, on pro-life pregnancy centers that have occurred since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision that returned abortion regulation to the states.

“The pro-abortion advocacy group Jane’s Revenge has so far taken credit for at least 18 arson and vandalism attacks on pregnancy centers after the May 2 leak of the Supreme Court draft opinion that overturned Roe v. Wade,”  Fox News reported. No arrests have apparently been made so far in the ongoing FBI investigation, however.

Hirono is not the first liberal politician to seize upon the “call to arms” rhetoric. Lori Lightfoot, Chicago’s far-left mayor, used the same terminology when a draft of the Dobbs decision leaked in early May.

There does seem to be a surplus of hyperbole and hypocrisy in the political echo chamber in this election season.

In a perhaps related matter, on Tuesday, allegedly bipartisan U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, who is trying to get a promotion to U.S. senator from Ohio, phoned in to MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to claim that “we have to kill” the GOP’s purported extremist wing.

Some of this pomposity presumably flows from President Biden’s Philadelphia speech when he smeared MAGA Republicans with the extremism label.

Separately, Fox News host Jesse Watters chided Graham (R-S.C.) for what he considered the ill-timed legislative proposal with the midterm elections right around the corner.

While agreeing on substance, “It’s terrible timing, terrible tactics…you know that’s not smart politics,” Watters told Graham because it allows Democrats to deflect from out-of-control inflation.

Graham, who is sometimes RINO, sometimes MAGA, vowed to fight the left’s radical agenda on all fronts, including for the pro-life cause.

Watch:

Parenthetically, the lawmaker received a lot of disapproval when he warned that a Trump indictment could prompt riots in the streets.

As alluded to above, conservative luminaries are weighing in on Hirono’s riff. Here is just a small sampling:
