Putin ‘scraping the barrel,’ calls up morbidly obese retired general to lead in Ukraine: report

Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin has reportedly put a heavy hitter in control of his country’s military special forces in eastern Ukraine.

Putin has tapped General Pavel, 67, who reportedly weighs in at around 300 pounds and wears a specially tailored uniform as a result, according to the U.K. tabloid Daily Star. The general supposedly also has to double-up on body armor to fight the battle of the bulge.

A senior intelligence source said that Putin is running short of senior officers owing to combat injuries and he “now scraping the barrel,” according to the outlet.

Thus Pavel (first name not as yet disclosed) is now large and in charge after the former special forces commander in the combat theater was seriously hurt in an artillery strike.

There is a lot of spin, if not outright propaganda, coming from both sides in the invasion that started on February 24, however, especially when taking into consideration the fog of war and other issues.

This latest anecdotal information appears to be very roughly along the lines, but in a vastly different way, of the mythological Ghost of Kyiv.

Before recently coming out of retirement, Pavel  — a 40-year veteran who served in Afghanistan and Syria and retired five years ago —  was supposedly living large in the Moscow area, witht he Star reporting that he regularly consumed five meals a day along with a bottle of vodka as a chaser.

Parenthetically, if the girthy general were to ever sit down for a perhaps all-you-can-eat meal with Putin, the latter allegedly uses a food-taster to ward off a poisoning attempt along with other security precautions.

“Godfather” Putin made Pavel an offer he couldn’t refuse, the same source claimed.

“Most of [Putin’s] best and battle-hardened senior commanders have been killed or injured fighting in Ukraine so he is resorting to sending second rate officers to the front who don’t last very long,” the source said. “He is now dragging generals out of retirement and one of those is General Pavel.

“Putin is like a mafia boss who no one can refuse to obey. If a retired general gets a message from Putin saying mother Russia needs you to fight in Ukraine there is not much you can do. There is now escape from Russia thanks to the sanctions.”

In addition to approximately 14 senior officers killed in action, Putin has reportedly relieved seven generals of duty for failing to meet his expectations.

Overall, about 30,000 Russian troops have reportedly died (and about 100,000 wounded) in the fighting in what the Russian leader, whose health has been subject to rumors, presumably assumed would be a walkover rather than fierce resistance that has occurred.

Putin’s forces have also lost a massive amount of military hardware including more than 200 planes and nearly 5,000 tanks or armored carriers.

Approximately 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers are reportedly killed or wounded each day as the hostilities continue in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine. The country has also suffered 10,000 or more civilian casualties so far as the tragic struggle continues.

Putin has reportedly dismissed Gen. Alexander Dvornikov, his top officer in Ukraine “ostensibly over the glacial pace of advance of the Russian army’s primary thrust to annex the Donbas,” the Daily Mail reported.

The U.S. (along with other allies) has poured billions into Ukraine for military and economic aid. Citing it intelligence source, the Daily Star also claimed that “Both Russia and Ukraine are sustaining a lot of casualties and war stocks of ammunition are running at very low rates.”

Last week, retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Daniel Davis  told Fox News host Jesse Watters that the balance of power in the war is “overwhelmingly in favor of Russia.”

He added, “There is no rational basis upon which to hope that the war can turn around because Russia is methodically moving through and destroying the Ukrainian armed forces in the Donbas; more than capturing territory, they’re destroying their ability to defend the country anywhere else…there is no rational path to a victory for Ukraine…and therefore, even the path that we want to harm Russia is a temporary one, a short-term one, but it comes at a profound cost, like you say, to the Ukrainian people…”
