J6 committee’s primetime spectacle bombed in ratings for major networks

Thursday night’s primetime rollout of the massively hyped select committee on the events of January 6, 2021, failed to capture the attention of the nation as much as Democrats hoped, posting lackluster ratings despite wall-to-wall coverage on every major network with the exception of Fox News.

According to the early ratings figures from Nielsen Media Research, nearly 20 million viewers tuned in to see the Nancy Pelosi’s hand-picked kangaroo court conduct its trial of former President Donald J. Trump in absentia, a number that is being touted as a smashing success by media outlets that are in the bag for the Democratic Party, but when given some context isn’t nearly as impressive as it seems.

For example, the three major television networks, ABC, NBC and CBS, all of which pre-empted their regular schedule in order to feature the big event drew around 11 million viewers combined, far fewer than would normally tune in for their nightly newscasts.

Fox News contributor Joe Concha took to Twitter to put the numbers in perspective. “Context: The evening newscasts on CBS, NBC & ABC average anywhere from 18 to 20 million viewers combined on a typical night. Those newscasts do not air in primetime. The January 6 hearings airing in primetime Thursday took in just 11+ million viewers on those three same networks,” he tweeted.

With cable news networks, MSNBC and its audience of rabid Trump haters led its competitors, averaging nearly 4 million viewers and CNN drew 2.7 million to its coverage of the hearings, the first of six expected installments.

Fox News, which declined to feature the ultra-partisan spectacle in favor of counterprogramming featuring Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity averaged 3 million viewers.

“It’s deranged, and we’re not playing along,” Carlson said of the J6 hearings. “This is the only hour on an American news channel that will not be carrying their propaganda live. They are lying, and we are not going to help them do it. What we will do instead is to try to tell you the truth.”

The New York Times put a positive spin on ratings that fell far short of what was desired.

“Though the Thursday night figure pales next to presidential debates (63 million to 73 million) or this year’s State of the Union address (38 million), it’s still much larger than the audience that would normally watch a daytime congressional hearing. And it’s in the ballpark of television events like a big “Sunday Night Football” game or the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” the paper reported.

On the bright side, the J6 committee’s primetime premiere did manage to draw higher ratings than the left’s other big production, thumping the Academy Awards which clocked in at 16.6 million viewers this year, an Oscars that will forever be remembered for Will Smith’s melting down and slapping emcee Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

The numbers for PBS, another outlet with a heavily liberal audience weren’t included in the 20 million total.

  4. Didn’t bomb. In fact, considering FOX was too chicken to show it, 20 million is respectable and certainly better that the original Watergate views of the time.

And for those who believe there should be s defense, this isn’t a trial jury, it is more like a Grand Jury. Grand Juries don’t hear defense stories either.

Trump will have his day in court in Atlanta where he will face state charges of interfering with the /sec of State and in D.C. where he will be charged with at least 3-5 federal charges.

  5. I just read that they had 19 million viewers. FJB and the Corrupt Country Destroying democrats.

  6. The prosecution is supposed to make it appear as bad as possible…..but there you have the defense to counter. This is not a hearing……it is a kangaroo court.

  7. So, there are at least 20 million people in this country who are gullible…probably the same low/no information voters who supported Brain-dead Biden and Harris the Ho!

  8. What can a regular US Citizen do to protect the nation from people who change evidence to fit their crime as in the Jan 6 debacle? NOTHING! Where are you GOP, why haven’t you filed an injunction against these bunch of liars by PROVING they have presented a pack of lies to the world? Where are you DOJ? Aren’t you supposed to protect America from all this propaganda based lies? Why isn’t the leader of this committee charged with TREASON for trying to take down a sitting president with nothing but a pack of lies? AG Garland, you are aiding and abetting these crimes and you will be charged with TREASON yourself. Your day is coming, start doing your job for us American’s out in the hinterlands.

  9. People aren’t stupid. This “spectacle” is conjured by the same folks who brought us RUSSIAGATE! And, it’s every bit as phony! Fool us once…

  10. Echo chamber. The demmunist tribunal is playing to their hard core sheep.

Those ratings probably don’t reflect the large percentage of tune-outs by those who were bored or disgusted.

  11. The PELOSI circus 🎪 of demented 🤡 🤡 dumbassed idiots has failed as respected into a waste of money 💰 assed

  12. Jeez! Talk about spin! MSNBC beat FNC by a million people. PBS wasn’t even counted. Who knows how many watched on the internet.
While you Kool-Aid drinkers gave me the the proverbial thumbs down, I was right once again. The 20+million people that watched this sham hearing were NOT Trump voters. They were the Lo-info crowd. And while you lemmings who agree with everything ‘our conservative media/pundits’ put out…Days/weeks months later you wonder where people get their ideas from. You Kool-Aid drinkers STILL can’t wrap your lemming heads around the fact that not everyone reads BPR or watches Newsmax. LoL 😆
And yea. I get that MOST of you don’t like HOW I say things. I get that calling you names hurts you because it hits close to home. I get that MOST of you don’t like that I say anything at all. However, you can’t argue on my actual ‘opinions’ because I’m RARELY wrong. 🤔😜😎🤣

  13. Who wants to bet the ratings will be even worse for the next installments, now that everybody’s on to how worthless the whole procession is?

      1. I’m not so sure about that. The amount of trust people place in the media has been declining. At the rate companies like CNN are killing themselves, I think it’s reasonable to expect this wasn’t as effective as they needed. Perhaps they’ll find they can’t sway the low-information voters you mentioned in a few months, either.
