With the Biden administration set to formally end Title 42 which is expected to result in hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants pouring across the border, a growing number of Democrats in Congress are distancing themselves from the White House.
In a sign of how much anxiety there is over the upcoming midterms and the day of reckoning that is being predicted for Democrats, several lawmakers have broken with President Joe Biden over the end of the emergency order first imposed by former President Donald J. Trump and then extended by the current White House occupant as a measure to mitigate the spread of COVID.
One of those who has expressed doubts that Title 42 should be ended is Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona who is up for reelection in November in a state that will be heavily affected by the opening of the floodgates, and the retired astronaut raised his concerns with Fox News Digital on Friday.
“I spent 15 years flying the Space Shuttle as a pilot of the Space Shuttle, commander of the Space Shuttle,” Kelly told the outlet. “We spent a lot of time preparing and training and making sure we have the right things in place for stuff that’s expected, and we spend an equal amount on stuff that’s unexpected, the contingency plans.”
“In this case, the administration hasn’t even prepared, and they don’t have a plan for what to expect,” he said. “Forget about the unexpected part, I’m just asking for the first part of this. We know what the situation on the ground is going to be. Let’s come up with a detailed plan and put it in place — and I just haven’t seen that,”
“Right now, we have a crisis on our southern border. Right now, this administration does not have a plan. I warned them about this months ago,” Sen. Kelly told Fox News over the weekend. “It’s going to be, to be honest, it’s going to be a crisis on top of a crisis.”
Other Democrats who have expressed concern with the move to end Title 42 include Kyrsten Sinema, Arizona’s other U.S. senator who said, “Arizona communities bear the brunt of the federal government’s failure at our border, so we’re stepping in and protecting border communities by ensuring the Administration works hand-in-hand with local leaders, law enforcement, and non-profits to put a comprehensive, workable plan in place before lifting Title 42,” Fox News reported.
Also reacting negatively to Biden is Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas.
“Some of us are standing up and saying this is the right thing to do for the border,” the Lone Star State Democrat said. “We all believe in immigration reform, but we don’t want chaos at the border. We want law and order at the border.”
Democrat dissent on Biden’s rolling out the welcome mat to the invading horde wasn’t limited to border-state Democrats.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) gave Biden a green light to end the emergency order earlier this month in a statement proclaiming that the order “is no longer necessary,” a decision that did not sit well with Senator Joe Manchin.
The West Virginia Democrat ripped the CDC following the decision, “Today’s announcement by the CDC and the Biden Administration is a frightening decision,” he said in a statement of his own following the big announcement.

Another Senate Democrat who has expressed reservations over Biden’s haphazard rollback of Title 42 is Georgia’s Raphael Warnock who is also up for reelection in a race where he could end up facing former NFL superstar running back Herschel Walker, a successful conservative businessman.
“Senator Warnock does not support lifting Title 42 at this time,” according to a statement issued by his office this month. “Senator Warnock believes in protecting the humanity of migrants at the border, but before this policy is rescinded, the Administration should present a plan for how it will ensure our border security.”
Other Dems who have expressed dissatisfaction with Biden’s move include Sen. Jon Tester of Montana, Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, Sen. Chris Coons of Biden’s home state of Delaware, and Sen. Gary Peters of Michigan, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
“Unless we have a well-thought-out plan, I think it is something that should be revisited and perhaps delayed. I’m going to defer judgment on that until I give the administration opportunity to fully articulate what that plan is,” said Peters, according to Fox News.
