Seattle lacks resources to investigate rape cases as ‘defund police’ chickens come home to roost: report

In more grim news from a Democrat-controlled city where crime is raging out of control, Seattle police are struggling to find the manpower to investigate adult sexual assault cases which have been moved to the “back burner,” according to a report that comes after moves to defund law enforcement, one of the top objectives of the progressive left.

The once-pristine Pacific Northwest city has, like other scenic west coast locales, been decimated by left-wing activists who have taken control over local governments where they have relentlessly advanced their ideological agenda, often at the expense of the safety of law-abiding citizens who increasingly find themselves falling prey to criminals as their cities have degenerated into urban dystopias thanks to Democrats in public office.

According to Seattle NPR station KUOW, Seattle Police “have forwarded far fewer sex assault cases to the King County Prosecutor’s Office” while “arrests for sex crimes involving adults and children have plummeted.”

“In March, outside of arrests, not a single sexual assault case involving an adult victim was assigned to a detective, according to documentation provided by a Seattle Police employee,” the outlet reported, adding that the Seattle PD  “says there are fewer officers to investigate these crimes,” citing two anonymous employees who “agreed that employee retention is part of the problem; 16% of Seattle officers are on leave. Others have left permanently,”

“The Seattle Police Department sexual assault unit is not at all investigating adult sexual assault reports or cases unless there was an arrest,” said one source inside the Seattle Police Department,” according to KUOW.

There are currently four detectives handling sexual assault and child abuse cases with the crimes committed against children taking the highest priority, “because Washington state law requires investigation into these crimes, whereas adult sex assault reports have a longer window in which officers may begin investigating them,” according to the report.

Few American cities reacted more radically to the 2020 death of the career criminal and drug addict George Floyd who died while resisting arrest by Minneapolis police, becoming a martyr figure for the left.

Viral video of Floyd’s unfortunate demise set off violent riots nationwide but Seattle set itself apart by allowing the occupation of several downtown city blocks by leftist miscreants who created the “Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone” aka CHAZ which was later renamed Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) as a lawless armed encampment where criminals ran wild.

The dangerous environment in the Emerald City was dismissed by then-Mayor Jenny Durkan who referred to the carnage as a “summer of love” while embracing the Black Lives Matter agenda to defund the police in her city. And while the Democrat leader would eventually be persuaded to dismantle the CHOP due to criminal activity including the shooting death of a black teenager, the aftereffects have been disastrous for Seattle.

In an embarrassing example of how dangerous the city has become, Amazon recently moved around 1,800 of its employees out of downtown Seattle out of concern for their safety following a spate of violence which is now out of control in areas filled with homeless vagrants, drug addicts, and criminals.

An Amazon spokesman provided a statement to the Daily Mail on the move: “Given recent incidents near Third and Pine, we’re providing employees currently at that location with alternative office space elsewhere,” he said. “We are hopeful that conditions will improve and that we will be able to bring employees back to this location when it is safe to do so.”

The mounting body count that drove Amazon from the area as a matter of necessity to protect its employees spurred Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell – another Democrat – to increase the police presence near the site of multiple murders.

Mayor Harrell has called for more police in light of the city’s out-of-control crime problem, an acknowledgment that the anti-cop crusade has badly hurt his city.

In another sign of how badly conditions have deteriorated, a new poll released by the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce showed that an overwhelming majority of residents have “actively considered” relocating with concerns about public safety being a major reason.

The Seattle Mayor’s office offered an “additional comment” to KUOW on their devastating report, “Any lack of urgency around sexual assault investigations or arrests is wholly unacceptable. Sexual assault cases must be exhaustively investigated, and offenders must be held accountable – period.”

  1. Does it matter ? If they’re arrested they’re turned loose then don’t show up for court if they’re even charged.

  2. The mayor cuts the sexual assault unit in half thinks they can still function like before. Most if not all prosecutions result from field officer arrests, not the sex offense unit detectives. Citizens are leaving Seattle because it is no longer the safe family city it used to be. Many have to move out due to the new high property taxes discouraging retirees to stay in the city. Amazon was to pay for the homeless in Seattle and decided to move east to Bellevue. There was also a high crime rate in the vicinity of Amazon offices as well. The Democrats have destroyed what used to be a great place to live.

  3. Boy! If THAT isn’t calling the kettle black! NOBODY wants to live in Seattle. My suggestion to ALL of the people living there, “IS”just leave & migratelikeCalifornians.Can’twritesincetommy’sgarage&goolgleblockingme.JustwheredidRUMBLEcomefrom?Iwantgoogle&tommy’sgarageofmymac!
