New poll: Majority believe Russian invasion wouldn’t have happened under Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine if President Trump was still in office, a majority of voters agree.

According to a new Harvard Center for American Political Studies (CAPS)-Harris Poll, 62 percent of respondents are certain that Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine was directly related to the United States’ current leadership. Conducted between Feb. 23 and Feb.24, the survey asked 2,026 registered voters to weigh in on the current situation, The Hill reported.

The 62 percent who felt Putin was making a move on Ukraine because of President Biden’s weak command were comprised of 85 percent Republican respondents and 38 percent Democrats. Further analysis found that 59 percent of registered voters saw a direct correlation between the invasion and Putin’s perception of weakness regarding Biden.

These results come amidst a fervent push by the media to deflect the blame from Biden and somehow hold Trump responsible for what has been an ongoing foreign policy debacle. Former National Security Advisor John Bolton recently appeared on MSNBC where he made the unfalsifiable claim that “Putin was undoubtedly waiting for a second Trump term,” before stating Biden’s failings amounted to the same.

Other headlines circulated like, “With Biden standing firm, Putin must wonder: Where’s Trump when I need him?” in The Washington Post and “Why Putin didn’t invade Ukraine under the U.S. administration” by MSNBC. Lara Trump joined Fox News’ “Fox and Friends First” to discuss this.

“They are breathlessly looking for any way to blame Donald Trump at every turn; we all know that,” Lara Trump said. Her response is supported by other polls as well.

A Washington Post-ABC News poll found that only 33 percent of Americans approve of Biden’s efforts in Ukraine while 47 percent disapprove. 48 percent also feel that America’s leadership in the world has grown weaker under Biden.

Another Harvard CAPS-Harris poll that found 64 percent of voters saw Biden as too lenient with Russia compared to 56 percent sharing that sentiment according to a Fox News poll. Gallup saw 55 percent disapproval for Biden’s handling of Russia.

So, while the media scramble to control the narrative, it appears the American people continue to see through these meek attempts to distract from the truth on the ground. The public is not so far removed from the four years of Trump’s leadership that they might suddenly forget that there were no new wars under his watch.

It is also abundantly clear that Trump took a strong stance against Putin that resulted in actual deterrence against Russian aggression.

That strength of leadership that the polls reflect is exactly why Putin didn’t act during the Trump administration but had under Obama/Biden’s watch by annexing Crimea in 2014 and continues to act under Biden’s sorry foreign policy now.

Perhaps the worst part of these efforts by the media to smear the record of Trump and cover for the failings of Biden is that, if they actually took the time to hold the current administration accountable, the leadership in Washington may have done something to prevent the situation from escalating so far.
