Following a meeting with European allies and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris warned on Sunday that Americans could see a spike in the already increasing costs of energy if Russia invades Zelenskyy’s country.

“When America stands for principles, and all of the things that we hold dear, it requires sometimes for us to put ourselves out there in a way that maybe we will incur some cost. In this situation, that may relate to energy costs,” Harris said at a presser at the conclusion of the Munich, Germany, Security Conference, according to the Associated Press.

Earlier this month, President Biden expressed similar sentiments about energy prices in the event of a war in Ukraine.

U.S. and other officials have repeatedly warned that an invasion is imminent.

With domestic inflation already out of control owing to the Biden/Harris federal spending spree, American consumers are already experiencing pain at the pump and elsewhere.

In a reversal of Trump administration policy, moreover, the U.S. went from energy independence to its current status of dependence.

Russia is said to be the second-largest oil producer in the world as well as a leader in natural gas production.

“The vice president’s comments come as Americans have already seen prices on common good rise thanks to a four-decade high in inflation, according to the consumer price index. Those price increases have been spread across almost all common goods, including medical care, clothing, transportation, food, and shelter,”  Fox Business reported.

Harris appeared to send a mixed message following the summit when she insisted that the mere threat of economic sanctions will deter Russian President Vladimir Putin from invading Ukraine while also admitting she thinks he’s decided to invade already.

After meeting with Harris, Zelenskyy wondered why the U.S. and Europe were holding off on imposing penalties because “sanctions that targeted Russia after Ukraine’s economy collapses and ‘parts of our country will be occupied’ would provide little comfort,” AP noted.

“What are you waiting for?” Zelenskyy asked.

Later this week, Biden is set to meet virtually with G7 leaders while Secretary of State Antony Blinken is scheduled to sit down with the Russian foreign minister in Europe, “talks that the American says will be scrapped if Moscow has invaded,” AP also observed, which also perhaps raises questions as to why these meetings are not occurring immediately.

Harris’ mission to Munich at the security conference there, which may be a part of a personal rebranding effort for the VP, was an attempt to protect Ukraine’s borders even as massive numbers of illegal aliens continue to pour into America as exacerbated by open borders, catch-and-release, and deportation-averse Biden policies,

Biden previously tapped Harris to address the so-called root causes of the U.S. southern border disaster, although the crisis appears to show no sign of abating.

Separately, Harris’ assessment of energy issues apparently does not extend to familiarity with electric cars.
