U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has reaffirmed his stated belief that ex-President Donald Trump is the “most consequential” personage in the GOP but he should no longer speak about irregularities in the 2020 election because it is harming a 2024 potential political comeback.

The corporate media and most of the political establishment take the position that there was no “widespread” fraud in the 2020 vote count and frowns on any further discussion or scrutiny. Trump has shown no inclination of letting up or taking Graham’s advice for that matter, however.

During a Sunday interview with Bill Clinton operative and January 6th-obsessed George Stephanopoulos on ABC News ‘This Week,” during which the host accused the former president of “lying” about the 2020 outcome, Sen. Graham had this say about Trump’s opportunity to regain the White House.

“It’s his nomination for the taking in 2024 if he wants…to be the Republican nominee for the Republican Party…,” Graham declared.

I am not contesting the 2020 election. I’d like to reform the system, the problems we found in 2020 need to be addressed, but the 2020 election is over for me. Donald Trump is the most consequential Republican in the Republican Party today,” Graham continued.

“[Trump] has a great chance of being president again in 2024, if he’ll start comparing what he did as president versus what’s going on now, and how to fix the mess we’re in,” Graham — who comes across to the populist Trump base as sometimes MAGA, sometimes Republican in Name Only (RINO), as these soundbites suggest — asserted.

“If he looks backward, I think he’s hurting his chances.”

When pressed further by Stephanopoulos, including recalling that President Trump accusing Graham of a being a RINO, Graham acknowledged that Trump is “the most dominant figure in the Republican Party. I think Biden’s approval ratings are in the tank because his policies are not working.”

“For the president to win in 2024, he’s gotta talk about the future,” Graham added in apparent reference to Trump. “He’s gotta talk about how to fix the broken border, how to repair the damage done through the Biden economic agenda, and how to make the world a safer place. I do believe if he talked about what he’s capable of doing, and remind people what he did in the past, he has a chance to come back.

“If he continues to talk about the 2020 election, I think it hurts his cause, and quite frankly, hurts the Republican Party,” Graham concluded.

Pratically everything is politics is transactional or ephemeral, but the senator still seems supportive of Trump even though, as alluded to above, Trump blasted his occasional golfing buddy as a RINO for disagreeing with the idea of potentially pardoning some J6 defendants.

“Lindsey Graham’s wrong,” Trump said on Newsmax TV earlier this month. “I mean, Lindsey is a nice guy, but’s he’s a RINO…Lindsey Graham, doesn’t know what the hell he is talking about…”
