Tucker warns people ‘about to get a lot more speeding tickets’ thanks to ‘Pothole Pete’ Buttigieg

Amidst bridges collapsing, shipping stalling, and hundreds of stranded drivers shivering overnight on an interstate, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg thinks he has the answer to our nation’s transportation woes: more speeding cameras.

At a press conference on Thursday to unveil his National Roadway Safety Strategy, Buttigieg declared: “Today we commit that our goal is this: zero. Our goal is zero deaths [from traffic]. The decision to commit to that goal in a serious way at a national level changes the way cities and towns design road, changes the way companies build cars, changes the way people drive.”

It also changes the way people get ticketed.

The plan pushes for programs aimed at increasing the use of speed cameras, because… “equity.”

Tucker Carlson blasted Buttigieg’s plan during “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Thursday, stating, “According to the new paradigm we read about today, infrastructure is no longer about roads, bridges, airports, train stations, and things you might actually use in the course of your life. We could fix those things, but why bother? Mayor Pete has better ideas.”

“Buildings, roads and bridges are falling apart,” continued Carlson . “According to the American Society of Civil Engineers that keeps tracks of these things, there’s more than 617,000 bridges in this country. As of tonight, more than 46,000 of those bridges are considered ‘structurally deficient.’ That means they are in terrible shape. Kind of a big deal for a bridge. As for roads, 43% of all public roadways in this country are ‘in poor or mediocre condition.’”

“What is the $1.2 trillion plan going to do for our crumbling infrastructure?” Carlson asked. “More speed cameras. According to the Associated Press, he would like to ‘promote greater use of speed cameras,’ which the department says could provide more equitable enforcement than police traffic stops.”

“Got that?” he stressed. “So because of equity, you are about to get a lot more speeding tickets from robots. See how that works? Shut up, racist! Pay the fine!”

On Twitter, critics agreed.

“If we can’t tax you to death, we will fine you,” wrote one user.

“Speed cameras aren’t about safety. It’s about squeezing Americans for cash to pay for their gov. BS,” wrote Chief Financial Officer of Florida Jimmy Patronis. “It’s also about supercharging Big Brother so they can know where we are at all times. FIGHT IT!”

Another user, Bart Morcois, tweeted, “He’s not fixing anything… #PotholePete is at it again.”

And Scarlett Katie wondered if anyone had told Pete that “many states already tried — and rejected — the use of speed cameras,” calling the plan “Another Dem total waste of $.”

And finally, AutoSpies points out the obvious: The former mayor couldn’t even fix his own streets — hence the moniker “Pothole Pete.
