Newsom spews word salad about ‘higher’ Texas crime rate, ‘Fox News’ and ‘feelings’ when pressed by Behar

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a COVID-19 authoritarian who might perhaps be considered more inclined to lock down law-abiding citizens, claims that his crime-ridden state is not getting a fair shake from Fox News, which he apparently watches, because lawlessness is also a problem in red states like Texas.

Democrat Newsom appeared in-studio on The View, which typically provides a soft and unchallenging landing spot for any liberal, and insisted that he is taking the rampant criminality seriously.

However, co-host Joy Behar actually posed a semi-tough question — which she was reading off a teleprompter — about the crime wave to the governor, who fended off a recall in the September 14, 2021, special election.

“California is seeing a wave of smash-and-grab robberies when mobs ransack retail stores…Critics in law enforcement blame this on your lax bail-and-theft policies emboldening criminals. Okay, here is your chance to tell us.”

In November 2014, California voters passed Proposition 47 which made theft crimes of goods less than $950 a misdemeanor rather than a felony, which critics say effectively legalizes shoplifting. Soft-on-crime district attorneys in California’s big cities who were elected with the financial support of left-wing billionaire George Soros are also making matters worse.

In answering Behar, Newsom, who seemed to bristle with the question itself, deflected and also talked about “feelings,” which perhaps was his way of pandering to “The View” audience as he perceived it.

“They couldn’t even identify what they were referring to as it relates to those policies, so that is a lot of rhetoric,” Newsom claimed. “That said, it’s unacceptable what’s happening…I can give you facts, and I’m happy to share them, but there’s feelings as well. Feelings matter more. ‘Do I feel safe? Do I feel protected?’ And when you see these flash mobs — very organized.”

“I just want to note,” he continued. “Not only do we take this seriously, we’re calling it out. There’s no excuse; we don’t condone that type of behavior. We’re going to arrest and prosecute folks, and we are doing that. Not only prosecuting, we just announced a six-year sentence for an organized ring just last week. There have been prosecutions and there have been arrests in L.A., San Francisco.

“And we recognize that we have to do more and better. But it’s not unique to California. You have seen it in Chicago and Minnesota. But also, this is not unique. Property crime has gone up in many, many states, red states, not just blue states. Violent crime and property crime, for example, is higher in Texas than in California. I don’t see that on Fox News.”

Earlier in the interview, Behar recalled that some Newsom-owned wine shops have also been robbed.

The very political governor went on to claim that the crime actually decreased in the years immediately following Proposition 47’s enactment that raised the felony prosecutorial threshold. “So there’s a politics that’s being played here,” he insisted, “but the facts suggest this is something else and different.”

“I just want to say it must really piss people off that you actually maintained your job,” co-host Whoopie Goldberg chimed in triumphantly about the unsuccessful recall as the segment ended.

As a Democrat benefiting from what might be deemed liberal privilege, Newsom was able to present his views without interruption from the panel on the ABC daytime show, who seemed to be hanging on his every word.

What the alleged Fox News viewer didn’t mention is that California residents are leaving the once Golden State in droves for an overall better of life in Texas, Tennessee, Florida, and other red states.

Moreover, while all kinds of statistics can be thrown around, crime persists as a serious issue in Democrat-controlled enclaves within red states.
