Tucker: Americans should be able to seek asylum in Central America, often safer than Chicago, Baltimore

With more than a hint of irony amidst the ongoing illegal immigration surge at the U.S. southern border, Fox News’s Tucker Carlson suggests that residents of some crime-ridden, Democrat-run American cities like Chicago, Baltimore, or elsewhere might be better off applying for refugee status or asylum in Central America.

The “Tucker Carlson Tonight” host offered up this premise as part of a wide-ranging editorial about Kamala Harris’s trip to Guatemala in her role as the point person to handle the immigration crisis for the Biden administration.

Lamenting that the Biden/Harris plan to address so-called root causes of migration apparently revolves around pouring more taxpayer-funded foreign aid into the Northern Triangle area, the Fox News Channel host asked “Why don’t we fix the United States first?” in the portion of the segment embedded below in two parts.

To underscore this point, Carlson played a clip of a past interview with El Salvador center-right President Nayib Bukele during which he was asked about advice for U.S. leaders on violent crime in their jurisdictions given that his country has apparently effectively dealt with the MS-13 international criminal gang.

“To be tough on crime. Before, El Salvador was the murder capital of the world. Three years ago it was the murder capital of the world. Now crime has been reduced by 75% — violent crimes…and so now, it’s more dangerous to live in Chicago, for example, than it is to live in El Salvador,” the president asserted.

“But the president’s point, which you just saw, is not crazy. It’s not just a talking point. It’s actually true. According to the numbers, El Salvador is in fact safer than many major American cities. Safer than Baltimore, for example,” Carlson explained.

“In 2018, Baltimore had 51 murders per 100,000 people. That same year, San Salvador had a smaller number — 50 per 100,000. San Salvador was long the most dangerous city in the hemisphere. Baltimore, by the way, also has a higher murder rate than Guatemala, Honduras, and Afghanistan.

“So why don’t people who live in Baltimore have a right to apply for asylum in Central America? Thanks to good leadership, El Salvador is getting safer. Meanwhile, thanks to people like Kamala Harris, our country is becoming far more dangerous,” Carlson noted.

Carlson was alluding to the anti-law-enforcement, defund-the-police sentiment among the pandering, liberal, globalist and cosmopolitan elite — many of whom live in generally safe and insular upscale neighborhoods sometimes protected by private security — that contributes to the huge spike in crime.

“So, it really is getting more dangerous. It’s not in your imagination. And, by the way, murder may be the only event in human life that the U.S. government tracks accurately. It’s kind of hard to hide the body most of the time.

“So we know for a fact that major American cities saw a massive increase in homicides, overall a 33% increase in homicides last year and that’s continuing this year. And that leads some people to wonder why Kamala Harris is promising to rebuild Central America, rather than America,” the Fox News host continued.

Along those lines, Carlson attributed the decline in the quality of life in many U.S. cities to “terrible leadership. Neoliberal nonsense. Frenzies of guilt-fueled, professional-class self-hatred. elected morons…”

The virtue-signaling consequences of so-called anti-racism included “more misery and more race hatred,” Carlson insisted.

“No questions about that. Ask your kids what they’re learning in school. Behind the scenes, this ideology means fewer and less effective police. Crime spikes. Drug addicts living in the park. Children murdered in drive-bys. That’s all still happening across the country. In fact, it’s happening more, but getting less coverage,” he said.

Among ordinary Americans, apart from the elites and the activists, defund the police is a non-starter, he noted. “Normal people, of all colors, of all political registrations, normal people, found that slogan terrifying and deranged because it is. So Democrats told their troops to pick a new euphemism. But the idea didn’t disappear; it’s still with us…

“You’re now more likely to be shot to death in St. Louis than you are in Guatemala City. A place that has been famous for decades for being violent. But St. Louis is now more violent…so maybe it’s our country that needs attention these days,” Carlson concluded.

Earlier in the commentary about Harris’s foreign trip that appears to be turning out to be a dud, Carlson — among other things — insisted that the people of Guatemala found the VP “phony and annoying. In fact, they strongly prefer the ‘orange man’ that you replaced.”

Even Alejandro Giammattei, the president of Guatemala. has conceded that Biden’s open-borders policies, in a fundamental reversal of former President Trump’s strong enforcement measures, has essentially enabled human trafficking.

Carlson also mocked U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) for lacking the historical knowledge that Spain colonized Latin America.
