Former President Donald Trump unexpectedly crashed a fundraiser Friday for Big Dog Ranch Rescue, the largest cage-free, no-kill dog rescue operation in the United States.
Dubbed the “8th Annual Wine, Women & Shoes Friday” fundraiser, the event drew Trump’s attention partly because it occurred at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, where it just so happens he’s been living since Inauguration Day.
Video footage recorded by reporter T.A. Walker of local news station WPTV showed the former president taking the stage and delivering a brief speech.
“So I didn’t exactly prepare for this, but I was walking by, and I heard everyone screaming, and I said ‘what’s going on,’ and they said ‘we’re going to help dogs,’ and that’s OK with me,” he can he heard saying in the clip below:

BDR Rescue has indeed been helping a LOT of dogs — and for a LONG time, to boot, and thanks in large part to its annual fundraisers.
“Big Dog Ranch Rescue raised $1 million during their annual Wine Women and Shoes fundraiser. It was the largest luncheon ever in Mar-a-Lago history,” local station WPEC reported in 2017.
Continuing his brief speech at the fundraiser, Trump then gave a shout-out to his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, who reportedly was present at the event and has been working with the dog rescue operation.
“I want to thank Lara, who’s been so incredible. I don’t know, you’re running for the Senate? I hear she’s going to run for the Senate!” he said.
This triggered loud cheers and applause.

Word broke last November that the then-president’s daughter-in-law was mulling running to replace Sen. Richard Burr once he steps down in 2022.
Late last month, she addressed the rumors herself on Fox News’ “Hannity.”
“I’ve taken it very seriously and I have no decision to announce live here … tonight, but I will tell you, stay tuned, because it is certainly something that I would be honored to do. So, I am keeping it open. Absolutely,” she said.
This prompted Fox News host Sean Hannity to reply, “I would predict you’d win.”
Listen:
Sen. Lindsey Graham has made the same prediction.
“My friend Richard Burr just made Lara Trump almost the certain nominee for the Senate seat in North Carolina to replace him if she runs,” he reportedly said on Fox News in early February after Burr voted to impeach her father-in-law.
The former president concluded his speech at the BDR Rescue fundraiser by thanking the event’s participants for their efforts to save dogs and touting his own administration’s efforts in protecting animals.
“And I want to thank you you all for what you’re doing. It’s so great and so important. I’m with you 100 percent. And we had many meetings in the White House, in the Oval Office having to do with saving and helping dogs,” he said.
“And tremendous progress has been made. We’d had many meetings, actually, about things that I would never even think would be possible in terms of some of the cruelty and the horrible things that happened. And we’ve turned around and made them great things, right?” he said.
He added, “So I just want to thank you and hope you’re having a good time and hope the food is good, and enjoy yourself, and I’ll see you.”
Despite claims from the left, he wasn’t lying about his administration’s efforts. Two years ago he signed into law the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act.
“In one stroke of the pen, the President has done more to protect animals and stop animal cruelty in America than anyone in history,” Rory Diamond, the CEO of K9s for Warriors, said at the signing.
Watch:
Despite the exceptional track record of both Trump and BDR Rescue vis-a-vis the welfare of animals, the former president’s appearance at the fundraiser predictably provoked howls of rage from left-wing zealots.

NO.
NO ONE should donate to your organization when all you really are is a funnel to the disgusting Trump family.
How sad that the dogs with you are being used as props.
Your organization should be SHUT DOWN and the dogs transferred to an organization that actually cares.— Holy Mother of Harlots (@HolyHarlots) March 13, 2021
I adopted a dog from @BDRRescue 6 yrs ago. Never will I refer a friend to adopt a dog from here again. They had a choice of where to have fundraisers. If they want to support ppl who kill wild animals, and attempt a coup of our govt., they will not get business from my friends.

What percentage of our donation goes to the Trump crime family? You should be ashamed.

To all dog lovers on Twitter. Beware of any fundraising by @BDRRescue. They are tied to trump via his daughter-in-law @LaraLeaTrump.

HuffPost meanwhile published a smear piece portraying BDR Rescue’s habit of spending money at the Trump-owned properties where it holds its fundraisers as nefarious and suggesting Lara Trump’s ties to the organization are criminal.
Sadly, trashing the largest cage-free, no-kill dog rescue operation in the United States to “own” the former president is exactly the type of thing #BlueAnon would do …
