Despite holding a minority position in the legislative body, Senate Republicans managed on Thursday to pass an amendment to prohibit the federal government from doling out coronavirus stimulus payments to illegal aliens.

This stunning victory was only possible thanks to the support of eight Democrats who crossed the aisle to help Republicans protect the American people’s tax money.

The amendment was introduced by Republican Sens. Tom Cotton and Todd Young earlier Thursday to prevent a precedent being established of the government giving money to those who’ve flagrantly violated America’s immigration laws.

“The Biden administration shouldn’t reward illegal immigrants for breaking our laws by giving them checks. Instead of courting foreigners with U.S. taxpayer funds, President Biden should use that money to aid American schools, businesses, and families,” Cotton said in a statement when he introduced the amendment.

“Economic Impact Payments were intended to provide a lifeline to Americans struggling to make ends meet during the coronavirus pandemic. They were not intended for people who are in our country illegally. Our amendment would ensure that people who break our immigration laws aren’t receiving taxpayer-funded handouts,” Young added.

All 50 Senate Republicans voted in favor of the amendment, which by itself wasn’t enough to bypass the Democrats’ 50 + 1 (Vice President Kamala Harris) majority.

However, eight Senate Democrats unexpectedly crossed the political aisle to break bread with Republicans in a move reminiscent of the type of genuine political unity not seen in Washington, D.C., for years.

The eight Democrats are listed below:

The majority of them are fairly moderate “red state” Democrats like Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly of Arizona, as well as Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

For refusing to toe the left-wing establishment line, these Democrats are now facing the wrath of the Democrat Party base, with one Arizona Republic columnist having already dropped a piece condescendingly declaring that the votes “say a lot about Kelly and Sinema’s character and their inclination to use immigrants as political pawns.”

Conversely, all eight Democrats are being lavished with praise by voices on the right, including even the voices at the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a conservative non-profit that fights for hard-line immigration policies.

Look:

That these Democrats have earned the praise of even FAIR is a big deal given as FAIR is considered a “hate group” by the discredited Southern Poverty Law Center.

It isn’t a hate group, of course, but that it’s been labeled one by the radical far-left shows that it’s not some lightweight conservative group — it’s the real deal.

That being said, not everybody shares FAIR’s assessment.

Case in point:

The Twitter user above argues that lawmakers voting to protect the American people’s money shouldn’t be something unexpected — it should be the norm. And it would indeed be the norm if the contemporary Democrat Party weren’t so ferociously pro-illegal alien.

To be clear, thanks to provisions that were installed in previous relief bills with the help of the Trump administration, thus far not a single dollar of coronavirus stimulus money has actually been given to illegal aliens.

However, Democrats have tried on multiple occasions to bypass these provisions. In April, for instance, several House Democrats introduced a bill that would have allowed illegal aliens who have a taxpayer identification number to receive stimulus money:

This is why Cotton and Young felt it necessary to take a stand now before it’s too late — especially with a pro-illegal alien president like Joe Biden now in office. Though sadly, their victory was short-lived.

Led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Democrats later reportedly “stripped out” their bipartisan amendment, according to Politico.

They also stripped out other reportedly “bipartisan amendments” that would have voiced support for the Keystone XL pipeline and prohibited the Biden administration from banning fracking.

So technically, the American people are out of luck, though they at least now know which Democrats — virtually all of them — don’t see anything wrong with doling out their taxpayer money to illegal aliens.
