Fox News’ Chris Wallace, a man who believes President Joe Biden’s inaugural speech was the best he’d heard since JFK’s address in 1961, also happens to seemingly believe that the coronavirus pandemic is on a trajectory upward, not downward.
During Fox News’ coverage of the inauguration Wednesday, journalist Brit Hume pointed out that the pandemic “is well on the way to a solution” thanks to the vaccine developed by the Trump administration. But as he spoke, Wallace was briefly heard on a hot mic seemingly disputing this.
Hume had at the time been speaking with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum about his perception of Biden’s inauguration speech.
“I would point out a couple of things. The president did talk about what a crisis we’re in. We’ve got the crisis in the environment, the COVID crisis and the rest of that. I think, however, for all the talk of that — and the media are full of this talk — the situation is one more friendly to Biden than he may have expected,” he began.
Why? Because of the vaccine.
“For example, COVID. Everybody wants to say that the COVID crisis is getting worse, and the numbers certainly suggest that. But we have a vaccine. And we believe and have every reason to believe it works. There’s some serious distribution issues that I suspect will be fairly quickly resolved,” Hume continued.
“And that is what we’ve hoped for from the beginning, that there would be a vaccine. We never thought we’d have one as soon as now. We thought it’d be way into next year, maybe beyond before we got one. So that’s one big problem that’s well on the way to a solution that he faces. And look around the world …”
It was around this point that his microphone, which had already been intermittently breaking in and out, broke out completely. And as it broke out, what Wallace was saying in the background could be heard.
Listen:
“Really? 100,000 people dying?” Wallace could be heard saying in his usual smug manner.
Wallace, who’s faced repeat accusations that — just like every other “journalist” in the mainstream media outside of Fox — he’s nothing but a Democrat activist, was seemingly trying to suggest that Hume’s point was bunk.
Was it, though?
For starters, the media have indeed been portraying the coronavirus pandemic as a “disaster.”
Such exaggeration. The vaccine will before long overcome this disease and end the pandemic. It might have been a disaster pre-vaccine. Not now. https://t.co/kOP2SgeUXZ

Second, one could argue as Hume has that it’d be a far bigger “disaster” were a vaccine not being rolled out thanks to the work of the Trump administration.
Despite incessant claims from the mainstream establishment in media and academia that a vaccine couldn’t possibly be produced by the end of 2020, it was.
And now, thanks to the Trump administration’s efforts, over 16 million vaccine doses have been administrated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In addition, as the vaccines are being distributed, the coronavirus case rates are slowly declining after months of skyrocketing.
Look:
That being said, the numbers may rise again once the newest variant of the virus reaches America’s shores, according to former Trump administration FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb:
As current epidemic surge peaks, we may see 3-4 weeks of declines in new cases but then new variant will take over. It’ll double in prevalence about every week. It’ll change the game and could mean we have persistent high infection through spring until we vaccinate enough people. https://t.co/uim537plsU

New variants may change everything. They’ll be 1% of all cases by end of next week, with hot spots in Florida and Southern California. But doubling every week, they’ll be about 30% of all cases in 5 or 6 weeks. It’ll be harder to hide from them, schools will be more vulnerable.

But again, this expected uptick would likely be far worse were a vaccine not already being distributed — a fact that Wallace seemed awfully eager to ignore.
In fact, the entire media have been awfully eager throughout the pandemic to pump up what has been described as “fear porn” and downplay/dismiss ANY positive news.
And so when Operation Warp Speed chief scientific adviser Moncef Slaoui predicted two months ago that America would be quite close to normalcy by May of this year, media figures like Wallace also dismissed that claim as well.
He specifically said roughly 70 percent of the U.S. population must be vaccinated for normalcy to occur. Once 70 percent of the population is vaccinated, he explained, “true herd immunity” would “take place.”
“That is likely to happen in the month of May or something like that, based on our plans,” he added.

It’s not clear when Wallace, who has no medical training like first lady and pretend doctor Jill Biden, believes normalcy will return.
