A celebrated, longtime writer is facing intense backlash and heat for the crime of calling out what he perceives to be the pretentiousness of Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden’s wife, Jill Biden.
Correction: Dr. Jill Biden.
Because Biden obtained a doctoral degree from the University of Delaware in educational leadership back in 2007, she refers to herself as Dr. Jill Biden.
In fact, her Twitter alias is based on her supposed status as a doctor:
Yet as noted by writer Joseph Epstein in a stinging column for The Wall Street Journal, Biden has never once in her life treated someone, let alone delivered a baby.
“A wise man once said that no one should call himself ‘Dr.’ unless he has delivered a child. Think about it, Dr. Jill, and forthwith drop the doc,” he wrote Friday.
Does it really matter, though? Well, yes it does when you got high-profile figures like Whoopi Goldberg calling for Biden to be appointed U.S. Surgeon General:

Again, Biden has zero medical experience, which raises of the question of why she’s deemed it necessary to refer to herself — and demand others refer to her as — doctor.
According to conservative commentator Ann Coulter, it’s because she’s pretentious.
If you’re not an M.D., you’re not a “doctor,” you’re a pretentious loser. https://t.co/DVzXLYfSqH
— Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) December 13, 2020
Epstein suggested this as well.
“Madame First Lady—Mrs. Biden—Jill—kiddo: a bit of advice on what may seem like a small but I think is a not unimportant matter. Any chance you might drop the ‘Dr.’ before your name? ‘Dr. Jill Biden ‘ sounds and feels fraudulent, not to say a touch comic,” he wrote.
Note that he’s 83 years old, ergo why he views Biden, who’s 69, as a “kiddo.”
A large number of the people who responded to Epstein via The Wall Street Journal’s comments section vehemently agreed, including one actual doctor.
“I am a medical doctor and the only time I ever refer to myself as “Dr” is when I am working with patients – mostly to reassure them. It’s pretentious to use that title outside of a professional context,” Dr. K. Katz opined.
Similar sentiments can be seen on Twitter:
My Aussie mate here would never use his doctor title. None of my Euro friends use it either. It comes across a bit pretentious here I suppose – because it’s more commonly associated with a medical doctor. (Don’t shoot the messenger!)
— David Mac Dougall (@davidmacdougall) December 12, 2020
I don’t know who needs to hear this but it ain’t sexist to point out that if you aren’t a medical doctor you shouldn’t refer to yourself as a doctor.

But this response wasn’t shared among liberal elites like those who run Northwestern University’s English Department. In a statement shared late Saturday, the department distanced itself from Epstein, who’d apparently previously been an “emeritus lecturer” at the school. The department also removed his profile page from its website.
The school itself also distanced itself from Epstein over his allegedly “misogynistic views” that just happen to be shared by Coulter, a woman.
Look:
It appears Northwestern University’s English Department has removed Joseph Epstein’s profile from its website.

This was the “nice” response.
Over on social media, Biden sycophants with flashy blue check marks raged like caged beasts over their new messiah’s wife being called out and criticized.
In the words of Greta Thunberg, “How dare you!?”
View some of the rage below, and notice the obsession with Epstein’s status as a “white guy” and “white male” (*Language warning):
I just caught up to this hot trash take on Dr Biden. A white guy with a BA bragging about his teaching career in academia as in part justification as to why Jill Biden shouldn’t be using her doctorate in education she earned is peak white male supremacy https://t.co/9S5h4Yi6qJ
— Atima Omara (@atima_omara) December 12, 2020
Of course a white male who has no doctorate wrote this article.. Joseph Epstein is a pig. At best. @WSJ shouldn’t have allowed this article to be posted, embarrassing. https://t.co/rkoFC4aRAS
— Aubrey O’Day (@AubreyODay) December 12, 2020
The guy who penned that ridiculous @WSJ op-ed about Dr. Jill Biden has only a BA degree.
Tell me white male mediocrity wrapped in hubris isn’t a thing and I will laugh in your face. https://t.co/mWq4363w3v
— Dr. Lynn Comella (@LynnComella) December 13, 2020
Instead of the “I’m mad about Jill Biden’s doctorate because I never got one and yet it hasn’t hindered me even a small amount in life because I’m a white man so how important could it be” op-ed consider reading @IjeomaOluo’s book https://t.co/gLJdGYRX34

White man proudly flaunting his BA, asserting that doctoral degrees other than MDs are a breeze to earn (note to Mr. Epstein: I earned a PhD in history in 2002, and I assure you it was no breeze), calls Dr. Biden kiddo. Have to admire his total lack of self-awareness.
— Joshua Zeitz (@JoshuaMZeitz) December 12, 2020
Very much support Dr. Biden not giving a single fuck what that mediocre white man thinks of her hard-earned title.
— Dr. Lacy M. Johnson (@lacymjohnson) December 12, 2020
Notice how not a single critic chose to address the substance of Epstein’s column. Instead, they resorted to ad-hominem attacks and cries of “sexism.”
Democrat vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, echoed the latter sentiment. Look:
Dr. Biden earned her degrees through hard work and pure grit. She is an inspiration to me, to her students, and to Americans across this country. This story would never have been written about a man. pic.twitter.com/mverJiOsxC
— Doug Emhoff (@DouglasEmhoff) December 12, 2020
Fact-check: FALSE.
Sen. Rand Paul, who holds an actual medical degree from Duke University and who established a real medical clinic in 2007, has repeatedly had his credentials questioned by the liberal elites in media.
Dude you’re not a real doctor. pic.twitter.com/489CgsxaAl
— Michael Drake (@mikedrake178) October 6, 2020
So who’s the sexist now?
Meanwhile, failed Democrat presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg’s husband, Chasten Buttigieg, has begun selling “Doctor First Lady Jill Biden” t-shirts:
Want to say no to sexists and yes to raising funds for the community college foundation where @DrBiden teaches? Well, you’re in luck: https://t.co/Bknb8edqat
