De Blasio teams up with anti-Trump London mayor Khan and NYPD sergeants are loaded with snark

As New York City and London, two of the world’s most “progressive” cities, face an ongoing and unprecedented wave of violence, their respective mayors teamed up to write a report about climate change.

Naturally, upon learning about the duo’s joint effort this week, the New York City Sergeants Benevolent Association issued the following snarky tweet:

Published Tuesday by the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, the report by NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio and London Mayor Sadiq Khan implores cities across the world to divest from “big oil companies” and invest in “climate solutions.”

Why? Because otherwise, the world will begin to end in 10 to 12 years, the two claim …

“Humanity has only the next decade to avoid the most disastrous effects of global warming,” de Blasio’s forward reads.

“Climate change is by far the biggest threat we face today. It’s an existential challenge that looms large over our societies, our politics and our economies, and which imperials not only our future prosperity, but our very survival on this planet,” Khan’s forward likewise reads.

De Blasio’s passion for so-called climate change has provoked mockery from those who doubt the legitimacy of his dubious claims or resent him for his blatant hypocrisy:

According to CNN, the report is meant to serve as a “how-to-kit” so other cities may follow New York City and London’s lead “by divesting from oil, natural gas, and coal investments.”

“In 2018, New York became the first major American city to set a goal of divesting from fossil fuels,” CNN notes. “The city is aiming to divest its $195 billion pension portfolio by the end of 2020. New York has also pledged to double its investments in climate change solutions to $4 billion by 2021.”

“The London Pensions Fund Authority has sold its stakes in ExxonMobil (XOM), BP (BP) and Royal Dutch Shell (RDSA). Its holdings in extractive fossil fuels have been cut from 1% of total assets in 2017 to 0.4% today. The LPFA’s holdings in green investments have climbed to nearly 3% of total assets.”

However, these divestments have not coincided with good news for either city.

Forbes confirmed last September that nearly 300 people are leaving the NYC area daily in part because of “costly living expenses, crumbling infrastructure and high tax rates.”

The city has also faced an unprecedented wave of violence, particularly antisemitic violence against Jews. During the last full week of 2019, at least eight antisemitic attacks were committed.

Moreover, data released earlier this week revealed that last year, just murder alone skyrocketed by a whopping eight percent from 289 in 2018 to 318 in 2019, while robberies jumped by 3.1 percent.

But instead of addressing these problems with solutions that actually work, de Blasio and other left-wing legislators in the state have pursued allegedly “better” policies that have in fact exacerbated the problems.

Take the eight antisemitic attacks that occurred in late December. The suspects in all eight attacks were reportedly promptly released after being detained as per reform measures supported by the city’s mayor.

Signed into law last year by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a close de Blasio ally, the reforms eliminated bail for most misdemeanor and “nonviolent” felony arrests, including criminally negligent homicide, manslaughter in the second degree and apparently assaults rooted in antisemitism.

On multiple occasions, the suspects released because of these reforms have simply gone on to commit even more crimes.

Over in London, the city has faced its own violent crime epidemic — one driven namely by acid and knife attacks.

Within the first five days of 2020 alone, the metropolitan area reportedly experienced the following:

  • The nonfatal stabbings of three teens at a New Year’s Eve party …
  • The brutal beating of a man outside a McDonald’s …
  • The injuries of two police officers while detaining a man armed with a knife …
  • The murder of a man during a “traffic altercation” …
  • The fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old man …

Khan’s solutions have been just as impotent.

Last year he called for literal knife control, saying, “No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife. Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law.”

Knife control obviously hasn’t worked.

And despite the constant violence, the mayor has continued to insist that the sprawling metropolitan is “safer” now than it was prior to him assuming office in 2016 …

Likewise, despite so much evidence to the contrary, de Blasio and Khan have continued to claim that man-made climate change is real, that it’ll destroy humanity (if not also the Earth) unless tackled via endless regulations and taxes.

U.S. Republican politicians, including President Donald Trump, disagree with this mindset and have therefore pursued alternative solutions.

In Florida, for instance, Gov. Ron DeSantis has earned widespread praise from the public over his pursuit of policies that address some climate/environmental concerns while also still meeting his other responsibilities to maintain a strong economy, limit violent crime, etc.

Yet for some reason, hardheaded leftists like de Blasio and Khan refuse to even mull over these sorts of demonstrably successful alternatives …
