Members of the blue checkmark Twitterati “Resistance” threw a collective fit Friday when reports emerged that President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka intended to celebrate her 10-year wedding anniversary over the weekend at Camp David.
“Presidential advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner plan to fete their 10-year wedding anniversary at Camp David this weekend with a small group of family and friends, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the event,” Vice magazine breathlessly reported Friday afternoon. “President Trump is also expected to attend.”
“How dare they!” the elitists shrieked
Seriously, Ivanka and Jared are holding a wedding anniversary at Camp David, on our dime? Stunning. Like their father, they have no shame.

Camp David, which once hosted Winston Churchill and settled matters of war and peace, has been reduced to hosting Jared Kusher and Ivanka Trump’s anniversary party.

Using a taxpayer facility for your private anniversary party is stealing. Jared and Ivanka are looters. https://t.co/NOVh7RvkUP

Why should taxpayers foot the bill for Ivanka’s and Jared’s 10th anniversary party with friends at Camp David? Even if they had been appointed and then confirmed by the Senate, they wouldn’t have the right. Oh, I forgot. Trump has turned the presidency into royalty. https://t.co/UAnnWrKelh

Camp David is not supposed to be Jared and Ivanka’s personal, taxpayer funded party venue. https://t.co/xhl7aOqzb9

I know, it’s gross and aggravating. I don’t know if Ivanka will go to prison but I’m confident Jared will on financial stuff, just like his father. Justice delayed is irritating but not denied. He can remember this weekend while in a cell.

Did not know the president’s kids could have a 10th anniversary bash (albeit at a “mediocre” property that isn’t nice enough to host the G-7) on federal property. I didn’t use our federal courthouse for private parties when I was a US Atty. Surely this isn’t at taxpayer expense? https://t.co/9efqF6UyXG

For one, Ivanka and her husband, senior White House adviser Jared Kushner, reportedly planned to pay for the expenses out of their own pockets.
“[E]xpenses at Camp David are covered by the family. Jared and Ivanka will be paying out of pocket,” a White House official confirmed to CNN.
Second, whenever America’s last three presidents hosted events at Camp David, they allegedly forced the American people to pay for them:
All these people are upset that Jared and Ivanka are having their wedding anniversary at Camp David.
They are paying for it out of pocket.
Fact Check: President Obama, Bill Clinton, and George H.W. Bush all did similar, and you paid for it.

And third, when former President Barack Hussein Obama frequently used Camp David for his personal adventures and exploits, the blue checkmark Twitterati said little.
Consider for instance how they responded when Obama let his daughter Malia host a slumber party at the historic site in 2009:
Happy b-day America! And happy 11th b-day Malia Obama! She started celebrating on thur w/ 20 girls at camp david. Now thats a slumber party.
— Ryan Seacrest (@RyanSeacrest) July 5, 2009
Party time at Camp David. Obama tells AP that Malia has 20 of her friends at Camp David for a birthday party. She turns 11 on July 4th.
— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) July 2, 2009
The President is now at Camp David. Word is there’ll be a party for Malia Obama, who celebrates her 11th birthday on the 4th.
— West Wing Reports (@WestWingReport) July 3, 2009
@mateoviento That’s right. Party at Camp David tomorrow! Happy early 11th Malia Obama!!
— Cory Froomkin (@CoryFroomkin) July 3, 2009
There was no outrage and no complaints. Now fast-forward to 2013, when Obama celebrated his birthday at the historic site by golfing with his buddies and reportedly partying.
“It was a quiet birthday for President Obama, who celebrated his 52nd on Sunday at Camp David,” The Washington Post casually reported at the time. “The White House was mum about festivities at the presidential retreat, but there was a seven-hour golf party Saturday at Andrews Air Force base, according to the pool report.”
“Obama and 11 close friends — including Marty Nesbit, Marvin Nicholson, Reggie Love and Sam Kass — spent the day competing for bragging rights. The winning foursome (Love, Kass, Wahid Hamid and Laurent Delanney) flew to Camp David with the president in Marine One; losers traveled there by van.”
There were no complaints about the event and no concerns about the price tag. Everything was hunky-dory because it was Barack Hussein Obama, after all, and Barack Hussein Obama is a flawless specimen or something of the sort.
The clear-cut differences between how Obama’s Camp David exploits were treated and how the Trump family’s exploits are being treated are not sitting well with those who value consistency and rationality:
Obama hosts a slumber party for his daughter at Camp David? Fine.
Obama hosts his golfing buddies? Fine.
Obama bring in the Dos Equis guy? Fine.
Libs now: OMFG TRUMP IS HOSTING IVANKA AND JARED’S ANNIVERSARY PARTY AT CAMP DAVIDhttps://t.co/wTaWlIcP2k
— Greg Pollowitz (@GPollowitz) October 26, 2019
Barack Obama’s daughter had her birthday party at Camp David. Now condemn that or be a hypocrite.
— HenryPenrose (@EarlAgain) October 26, 2019
The hypocrisy is what kills me. Obama can bring 11 friends to Camp David for a weekend bash, but Trump can’t have his daughter over for her wedding anniversary? Lmfao. Cry me a River.
— Milo (@ChadMilan) October 26, 2019
The president for his part didn’t let the critics stop him from enjoying himself at Camp David late Friday evening with his daughter and son-in-law:
Had a beautiful dinner last night at Camp David in celebration of the 10th Wedding Anniversary of Ivanka and Jared. Attended by a small number of family and friends, it could not have been nicer. Camp David is a special place. Cost of the event will be totally paid for by me!
