‘Beyond what anyone thinks’: GOP Rep Kevin McCarthy says it’s full-fledged war within Dem Party

According to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the catfight between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and socialist Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez & her staff isn’t indicative of a small-time family feud. It’s indicative of a full-fledged war within the Democrat Party.

This isn’t a family feud. This is beyond what anyone thinks, he declared Thursday evening to Fox News host Laura Ingraham.

Listen to his full commentary below, via FNC’s “The Ingraham Angle“:

He made the remarks hours after Pelosi suggested to the media that the feud was effectively over. As previously reported, the feud came to a head this week after AOC’s chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, posted a tweet accusing “moderate” Democrats such as those within the Blue Dog Coalition of being modern-day segregationists.

This spurred Pelosi into taking an indirect shot at Chakrabarti by reportedly telling her caucus, “Do not tweet about our members and expect us to think that that is just OK.” That in turn inspired AOC to fire back by suggesting she’s a racist.

Speaking to the press during her weekly briefing Thursday, the House speaker tried to downplay the feud and act as it’s over with. AOC reportedly tried to do the same.

But as noted Thursday by McCarthy, the evidence makes it clear the feud is only just beginning. Included among the evidence are Chakrabarti’s continually aggressive tweets:

“[He] challenged any voter to tell us what the Democrats have accomplished for America’s kitchen table and then questioned the ‘legislative mastermind,’ referring to Nancy Pelosi,” McCarthy said, referencing the third tweet above.

“Is this just a passing rift here?” Ingraham then asked.

“No, because what are they doing now?” McCarthy replied. “They’re challenging these Democrats in primaries. The socialist Democrats are taking over. Not only are they taking over the party, they’re going to take on any Democrat in the process as well. So they’re not doing any legislative business, and it’s affecting what they do on the floor.”

He cited the National Defense Authorization Act as an example. Though the bill has always easily made it through Congress year after year, this year it’s been stalled because of Democrats.

“For 60 years, it’s been bipartisan, passed the Senate with 86 votes,” he said. “They’ve made it completely partisan. Instead of putting the troops first, they’ve gone to politics because of the socialists.”

And that’s the key point: AOC and her ragtag team of far-left radicals are interfering with regular congressional business, and it’s having wide-reaching repercussions.

Just Thursday alone, three separate but highly consequential events occurred.

Justice Democrats, a radically far-left PAC co-founded by Chakrabarti, sent out an email blasting Pelosi for her “out-of-line lashing out at our squad.” The Blue Dog Coalition sent out its own email targeting AOC and her chief of staff. And Congressional Black Caucus member William Lacy Clay, a black man, excoriated Ocasio-Cortez for being so “ignorant” and knowing so “little [American] history.”

Ingraham and McCarthy concluded their discussion by noting how AOC always responds to criticism by playing a card — be it the woman card, the race card, etc.

“Think for one moment — a year ago this month, you’d never heard of her until she beat Crowley in a primary,” McCarthy said. “She’s moved very fast. But she always wants to use advantage. She’ll fight until you fight back. Then she wants to play a race card or something.”

“But then, it’s like you can’t ever criticize a person of color, but now we have people of color saying, ‘Whoa, whoa whoa,  nuh uh!'” Ingraham added, referencing Clay

Exactly. It’s one thing for Republicans to constantly tear into AOC and her freshman peers, including Reps. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley. But it’s another altogether for Democrats themselves — including Lacy, an 18-year-veteran and “person of color” — to take shots at each other.

It’s as if Pelosi has lost all control of her caucus. And it’s been a longtime coming. Even as early as April, a month after the Democrats refused to condemn Omar’s blatant anti-Semitism, President Donald Trump had been warning of the brewing radicalism within the party.
