A young actress has apologized after being accused of racism for her choice of Halloween costume.
Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper on the Archie Comics based WB show “Riverdale,” said she “never meant any harm” when she tweeted the innocent photo on Sunday.
″Found my Halloween costume!! Inspired by the color of my soul,” she tweeted with a picture of an all black costume with black face paint.

But after a public backlash Reinhart went into apology mode.
“I did not mean for my tweet to come off that way. I can see how it was interpreted as being insensitive, completely. I saw the pic on a Halloween Instagram and didn’t think it would be interpreted as being racially insensitive,” she tweeted.

Anyone who took the time to check Reinhart’s Instagram could see that the star has a history of having fun with special effects makeup.
Many of her fans on social media defended the actress.

Don’t apologize it’s an overreaction ? go for the all black object next time so stupid people don’t have to guilt you into an apology.

I’m half-black & I see NOTHING WRONG with what you posted. That’s NOT blackface. That was a demon halloween costume. People are being extra.

I think people need to stop misinterpreting things that are obviously not meant to be perceived in that way. People are way too sensitive.
