IHOP waiter uses MMA fighting instincts to take out thief armed with a crowbar

Life can be dangerous for a thief, particularly when you pick a target that is a third degree black belt in mixed martial arts.

Elijah Arnold, a waiter at an IHOP in San Antonio, ruined an alleged robber’s day on Thursday when he took him out during a robbery attempt, WFAA reported.

“I just heard the register popping …I stepped out and looked and there he was pulling the register out and everything so I just took off, my instinct kicked in and I took off full speed at him,” Arnold told WFAA.

Despite the robber hitting him with a crowbar, Arnold was able to get him into a submission hold that he learned during his training.

Arnold said he actually felt sorry for the man when he pleaded with him to let him have the stolen cash.

“He tries to start apologizing and, ‘man I’m so sorry. I know I hit you. I know I’m trying to steal your money, but just give it to me. I need it really bad’ and everything like that,” Arnold said.

Arnold told WFAA that he was is a desperate situation himself, homeless and addicted to drugs, before IHOP gave him a chance to change his life.

“When I walked up to my managers today…they just congratulated me and said thank you and that was the biggest thing that I could have was the thank you from my managers,” the hero said.

It came the same week an attempted robber in Detroit was thwarted by a concealed carry holder who used his legally owned firearm to save his, and his cousin’s, lives.

In that instance a would be thief waved a gun in the victim’s face, but was shot multiple times by the intended target.
