A Democrat candidate for mayor of New Orleans has found himself in trouble for allegedly pleasuring himself in public.
Frank Scurlock might have taken his campaign slogan, “Make New Orleans Fun Again,” to a different place when he allegedly masturbated during an Uber ride in California on February 10, The Advocate reported.
According to the female Uber driver, Scurlock committed the sex act while being driven to a West Hollywood hotel.
The driver said she heard noises coming from the backseat and stopped the car to check and see what was going on.
When she opened the back door she witnessed Scurlock with his penis in his hand, she claimed.
The driver went to a gas station to call the police while Scurlock took off. But after police got a list of hotel guests from where she picked him up, she was able to identify him in a lineup, according to The Times-Picayune.
“They went back to the hotel and were able to get a name,” Santa Monica Chief Deputy City Attorney Terry White told the Times. “Based on the name, they got a picture and put it in a photo lineup, and the driver identified him.”
If he is convicted, Scurlock would have to register as a sex offender in California. It s unknown if he would have to do the same in Louisiana.
How the driver intends to prove her case is anyone’s guess as it appears to be a case of he said, she said.
“The allegations brought against me are without merit,” he said in a statement. “It has been many months since this alleged incident occurred. I await my day in court and expect to be vindicated.”
Charges were not filed until Aug. 31 because there were questions about jurisdiction.
Scurlock is due in court on Oct. 16, two days after the New Orleans primary election is held.
