Predator able to flee after witnesses IGNORE brutal attempted rape on busy sidewalk

The days of the Good Samaritan rushing to the aide of a damsel in distress appear to be long gone.

That was proven on Tuesday when Los Angeles, California police released a video of a woman being sexually assaulted at 5:40 a.m. outside of her apartment, as cars and people drove and walked by, doing nothing to help, CBS Los Angeles reported.

The man, who was described as reeking of alcohol and speaking Spanish, which the victim did not understand, pulled off the victim’s pants and panties as she, successfully, fought him off.

At a news conference police said the woman “put on at least a two-to three-minute fight” against the attacker.

“This individual is extremely dangerous and he needs to be taken off the streets,” LAPD Capt. Lillian Carranza told reporters, according to CBS Los Angeles.

“At one point, you will … see a lady walking down the street, looking back disturbed by what she’s seeing, but at no time did anybody stop to help,” Carranza said.

The fact that no one helped the victim shocked officials.

“We’ve all been doing this for a long time, and this one caught our attention,” Detective Karen Whidman said.

“A woman should be able to go and get a cup of coffee in the morning before the sun comes up without being sexually assaulted,” Whidman added.

The woman yelled “Fire, fire, fire,” in order to get anyone’s attention, Detective Eric Rose said.

“Even if people don’t feel comfortable, necessarily, getting involved physically, there’s nothing wrong with standing to the side, dialing 911 to at least make that phone call, and that’s all we’re asking,” he added.

Officials claim they would have had much better shot at apprehending the suspect if someone would have at least made a call.

The suspect is described as a man aged 40 – 50, Hispanic, around 5’9′ tall.
