FBI agents raided the home of Paul Manafort, former campaign chairman for President Donald Trump, last month.
The raid was carried out in the pre-dawn hours of July 26 at Manafort’s Virginia home, according to the Washington Post.
It came the day after Manafort voluntarily spoke to the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Manafort’s spokesman, Jason Maloni, confirmed that Manafort was served with a search warrant.
“FBI agents executed a search warrant at one of Mr. Manafort’s residences. Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well,” Maloni told the Daily Caller.
According to the report the search warrant was requested by Special Counsel Robert Mueller who is investigating possible collusion between President Trump’s campaign and Russia.
The warrant was issued because Mueller was concerned that Manafort would not hand over all of the records requested in the grand jury subpoenas, the Post reported.

According to the report, the agents took several records from Manafort’s home that he had already given Congress.
The Post, which has not been a friend to the Trump administration, admitted that Manafort has been very cooperative with committee’s investigating alleged Russian collusion in the 2016 election.
Manafort has been voluntarily producing documents to congressional committees investigating Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. The search warrant indicates investigators may have argued to a federal judge they had reason to believe Manafort could not be trusted to turn over all records in response to a grand jury subpoena.
“If the FBI wanted the documents, they could just ask [Manafort] and he would have turned them over,” an adviser close to the White House told the Post.
“Mr. Manafort has consistently cooperated with law enforcement and other serious inquiries and did so on this occasion as well,” Maloni added.
Sources close to Manafort believe that Mueller’s plan is to create a case against Manafort that is not related to the 2016 presidential campaign in order to pressure him into flipping against the president and his team.
