CNN states Merkel chose G20 location to humiliate Trump, but resurfaced AP report says something else

CNN is not doing itself any favors if it wants people to stop calling it fake news.

The network is so obsessed with attempting to make President Donald Trump look stupid, that it keeps getting egg on its own face.

Nic Robertson, the network’s international diplomatic editor, told CNN viewers on Wednesday that German Chancellor Angela Merkel chose the site of the G20 summit in Hamburg rather than a remote location, in order for President Trump to be up close and personal to the protesters that despise him.

“Angela Merkel has chosen to hold this summit in an environment, in a location, that can be surrounded by protesters. It’s not as we see some summits, on a remote hilltop that the whole village or the town around it is secure,” Robertson said. “Angela Merkel is in a re-election campaign this year. Her protesters will be able to get close so that, in part, President Trump can hear the voices of dissent here in Germany, here in Europe.”

But what the “expert” didn’t mention, or didn’t know, is that the location was chosen more than a year ago, when all the “smart” bets were on Hillary Clinton becoming the president.

He also claimed that he believed the anti-capitalism protesters at the G20 summit would voice their approval of Merkel’s pro-globalization positions, which begs the question of how this man is considered an expert in anything.

In June 2016, when Hillary Clinton was the odds on favorite, the Associated Press reported the location was already chosen:

The German government says it will host a summit of the Group of 20 major world economic powers in Hamburg on July 7 and 8 next year.
The government said Friday that the meeting will likely be held at the northern port city’s congress center. The venue contrasts with the remote hotel in the Bavarian Alps where Germany hosted last year’s Group of Seven summit, but the government says it “fulfills all the logistical and security demands.”
