Wounded combat veteran turned heads and warmed hearts he competed in the Boston Marathon on Monday.
Army Staff Sergeant Earl Granville, who has a prosthetic leg, was caught on video by WCVB carrying his guide across the finish line of his shoulders.
Granville, a nine-year National Guard veteran, lost part of his leg in Afghanistan in 2008 when the vehicle he was travelling in was hit by a roadside bomb, according to WCVB.
The veteran has since competed in marathons in Detroit, Chicago, New York and Boston using a handbike.
But on Monday he didn’t use the bike.
Marathon watchers came up to hug him and offer thanks but Granville didn’t know what all the hubbub was about.
“I don’t know what they’re inspired about,” he said as he broadcast his trek on Facebook Live. “I’m walking.”

And he wasn’t the only inspirational veteran in the event.
Jose Sanchez, a Marine who also lost part of his leg in Afghanistan, ran the entire race carrying the American flag signed by many who served with him.
“It’s not for me, it’s for others to be inspired, to be motivated,” he said after he completed the race.

“We live for others — I’ve learned that throughout being angry and frustrated and all that PTSD. I’m channeling that to do positive and give back to whatever I’ve taken from the community,” he said.
Videos of both heroes were shared widely on social media, earning well-deserved praise all the way.
