Apparently the Frederick County Public School district feels Twitter is a safe space, or something. It fired a district social media director because she dared to correct a kid’s incorrect spelling of “tomorrow” on a tweet.
Katie Nash, a 33-year-old social-media manager for the Maryland school district, was fired after she posted a correction to a kid who misspelled the word “tomorrow,” the New York Post reported.
When the student asked if his school could close “tammarow,” Nash playfully replied, “But then how would you learn how to spell ‘tomorrow’? :)”
Nash and the student went on with each other over several tweets and the kid even noted he didn’t mind the sarcastic tweets and took nothing personally.
But that wasn’t good enough for the school district, which fired Nash from her $44,066 per year job as Web-Experience Coordinator.
Nash said she didn’t want to make a big deal about it all, but as a recently hired employee she was surprised by the abrupt treatment.

“As a new employee, I think I sort of would have expected that there would have been some counseling or some suggestions on how to improve,” she said.
And she was taken aback by the firing for another reason. As social media director, she thought her job was to increase social media engagement.
“Any social-media manager is looking for increasing engagement, and that’s sort of the expected parameter,” she added. “I think a conversation about how we engage with students would have been completely appropriate and I would have welcomed that.”
Her original tweet to the student not only got thousands of likes, but it sponsored the hash tag #KatiefromFCPS.
There are a lot of tweets using the hashtag…
