Marie Osmond pitted against Oprah causing a battle of the bulge-less: Who took a swipe at who?

Was Marie Osmond taking a swipe at Oprah Winfrey when she bragged about how much weight she lost on Nutrisystem?

Osmond, a pitchwoman for Nutrisystem, bragged on Tuesday that she lost 50 lbs. with the company and kept it off for the entire 10-years she’s been with the company, according to the New York Post.

The statement was seen by the Post as a shot at Oprah, and Weight Watchers, as the mogul moved stock in the company last month when she announced that she had lost 40 pounds over a 14 month period.

Winfrey has made it a point to get her message out to the public over the past two weeks as it is New year’s resolution season, the Post reported.

But Nutrisystem wasn’t going to sit by and not take the opportunity to promote its product.

“Marie has been with us for a long time,” Dawn Zier, Nutrisystem’s Chief Executive, said. “She’s kept the weight off and had a lot of success.”

The Post also believed that was a swipe at Winfrey’s history of shedding and then adding pounds.

But if it is a war for the consumers’ wallets Nutrisystem is winning the battle.

Its stock has risen 60 percent in the previous year while Weight Watchers stock has fallen more than 50 percent in the same time frame, according to the Post.
