‘Friendly’ Putin throws Obama major curve ball in retaliation; U.S. diplomats more than welcome to stay

This is embarrassing.

Russian President Vladimir Putin summarily brushed aside sanctions against his nation by President Obama on Thursday along with the ousting of 35 Russian operatives from the United States.

Not only did Putin invite U.S. diplomats to stay, but he suggested their children join in coming holiday celebrations at the Kremlin.

“As it proceeds from international practice, Russia has reasons to respond in kind,” Putin said in a statement, the Washington Examiner reported. “Although we have the right to retaliate, we will not resort to irresponsible ‘kitchen’ diplomacy but will plan our further steps to restore Russian-US relations based on the policies of the Trump Administration.”

Putin declared that “further steps towards the restoration of Russian-American relations will be built on the basis of the policies carried out by the administration of President Trump.”

Ouch.

In laymen’s terms the Russian president called President Obama irrelevant.

He also slammed the president’s actions as being counter to creating a good relationship with Russia and the world.

“This runs contrary to the fundamental interests of both the Russian and American people,” the Russian president said. “Considering the global security responsibilities of Russia and the United States, this is also damaging to international relations as a whole.”

Putin said U.S. diplomats were going to have no “problems” in Russia as a result of Obama’s actions and even invited them to partake in New Year’s celebrations at the Kremlin.

“It is regrettable that the Obama Administration is ending its term in this manner. Nevertheless, I offer my New Year greetings to President Obama and his family,” Putin said in the statement.

“My season’s greetings also to President-elect Donald Trump and the American people.”

On Thursday President Obama ordered 35 Russian operatives to leave the United States and imposed largely ceremonial sanctions on Russian intelligence services for Russia’s alleged role in the hack of the DNC and the propagation of supposed fake news during the presidential election.

The announcement by Russia came after a tweet by its embassy that mocked President Obama as a lame duck.
