Sarah Michelle Gellar is probably still spitting out shoe leather after sticking her foot in her mouth on social media on Sunday.
The star of the cult hit “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” mistakenly tweeted out a message over the death of Boy George, who is very much alive, after it was reported that George Michael died.
The 53-year-old pop superstar passed away over the Christmas weekend, his representatives reported.
Gellar corrected her mistake but it didn’t stop her from being ridiculed on Twitter for the miscue.
Such an embarrassing mistake. Don’t think I’ll be able to watch Sex & The City without cringing about it from now on https://t.co/rg6MMX38Kj

Sarah Michelle Gellar thinking George Michael was Boy George is hilarious

All I am saying is Sarah Michelle Gellar better be fucking FRONT ROW at the next Boy George concert.

Sarah M Gellar just tweeted that Boy George died. Swing & a miss, Buffy. Perhaps some of those people you killed weren’t vampires after all

At least George Michael can Rest In Peace knowing we dragged Sarah Michelle Gellar for a tweet. It’s what he would have wanted!!!!!!!

Gellar corrected her mistake and was not happy about social media’s response to her tweet.
Just as sad when you get the correct information- #ripGeorgeMichael thank you to everyone who corrected me- it’s still so sad
— Sarah Michelle (@SarahMGellar) December 25, 2016
And for the record yes I completely know the difference between Boy George and George Michael- I heard incorrectly. My intentions were good
— Sarah Michelle (@SarahMGellar) December 26, 2016
This is usually why I don’t comment on public matters, but it all seemed so sad on Christmas. Lesson learned.
