The man, who has been identified as 18-year-old OSU student Abdul Razak Ali Artan, was a refugee from Somalia who had legal permanent resident status, according to NBC News.

A nearby police officer responded quickly and shot the suspect dead.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who last September told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that he “wouldn’t say to these (refugees), ‘You can’t come in,’” sent his “thoughts and prayers” to the victims.

“To go over the curb and strike pedestrians and to get out and start striking them with a knife, that was on purpose,” Craig Stone. the Ohio State University campus police chief told reporters. “Our officers were on the scene in less than a minute and he ended the situation less than a minute. He engaged the suspect and he eliminated the threat. The suspect is DOA.”
