N. Carolina is allowing illegal immigrants to be notaries public – without even speaking English

In North Carolina only a legal citizen is supposed to be allowed to be appointed a notary public, but despite what it clearly says in the law the state’s secretary of state is allowing illegal immigrants to take the position.

The situation was discovered when a North Carolina newspaper called the Secretary of State’s office to ask if an illegal immigrant who had one of Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) work permits could use the permit as proof of ID to be awarded a notary public position, the Daily Caller reported.

According to state law, a notary public applicant must “reside legally in the United States.” But Obama’s DACA does not confer any residency status.

That means if residents using a DACA card are becoming notary publics in North Carolina it is in contravention to state law.

Another key provision of the state law is that the applicant for notary public must speak and read English. But when the newspaper attended a recent notary public training class they found that some of the illegals signing up for the position needed an English to Spanish translator so they could grasp what was going on in the class.

This may not be all that surprising when you note who is now in control of the North Carolina Secretary of State’s office.

The current Secretary of State of North Carolina is Elaine F. Marshall, the first woman ever elected to that position in the Tar Heel state and… a member of the Democrat Party.
